    resident lothario was doing it "for the hos" (as they might say in LA),
    not money. There is nothing that attracts the ladies quite like
    demonstrating a moderate competence at reading datasheets in the 1980s.

    Much of what matters in this world is done by volunteers.

    I had to fend off people begging me to joining the Parish Council last
    week, which is a volunteer job that a former councillor warned me about.

    !!Heavens above!! almost every railway preservation society is manned overwhelmingly by volunteers!!

    So why would someone with the relevant skills not volunteer to make sure
    IT legislation (which affects tens of millions of users) was properly
    drafted?
