There are several incidents every year where one or more horses escape
from fields in the Waterbeach area onto the Fen Line tracks. Word on the street is that they aren't sufficiently fed and go foraging.

They usually get rounded up (eg eight in one incident in April 2019),
but on 19th November 2014 seven were killed by passing trains, one of
    which derailed.

When you switch it from the mane line into a stabling siding at speed .
