There is an old joke that it is called an "N" connector because mathematically there are N different ways to assemble it, and
all of them are wrong :-)
But actually it is named after its inventor, Neill who worked at Bell Labs. His colleaugue, Concelman, invented the "C" connector and then they
combined efforts and developed the BNC... "Bayonet Neill Concelman".
(TNC being locked with a screw THREAD in place of the bayonet)
