  • Where to buy components these days?

    It's been quite a while since I bought anything and way back when ebuyer
    was my goto option. I now see it's gone bust, sadly.

    Where do people go these days, other than amazon? No frills or service just give me the bits I want delivered to my door.

    I'm after some internal and external storage options.

    You can sometimes find good deals on Amazon or eBay that are from
    verified source. For example both Samsung and Crucial have "shops" for
    their memory products such as RAM and NVME

    Be warned though memory prices will make you week as all the demand is
    coming from AI and Cloud server farms.

    There is a shortage of smaller sized spinny discs less than about 4 TB
    but I am not sighted on your actual storage requirements....

    +1 for Scan, they are efficient and reasonable price-wise, and you know
    you're getting legit parts (probably!)

    (They do occasionally do some dumb things though. I wanted a couple
    of high-capacity server-grade HDDs, but they would only sell one per
    customer. A bit dumb for something that's almost certainly going into
    a RAID config. Had to hold my nose and order off Amazon instead.)

    Shows you what's available where at what prices. Then work your way down until you find a retailer you're happy with.

    For a recent build I mostly used Scan and Amazon, but would happily use
    others if available.

    What was once Dabs Direct became BT Business Direct, and is now also accessible through EE. Not the cheapest - might as well go to PC World.

    Novatech certainly do parts, and always have. LaptopsDirect seem to do
    so, too, now ... though I've never used them for that.

    Scan or Novatech would be my first suggestion, these days. QuietPC are
    worth a look -- their range is more than just quiet fans and cases -- as
    are Kustom PCs (who are great for odd things like case parts and cables).

    I've read that it's having a knock-on effect on storage, too.

    Looks for big shops. Some have clearance on there, eg currysclearance, aooutlettelford (AO). Box also have a clearance store on there, but I can't find the handle - their name is a PITA to search for!

    Bargain Hardware also have an ebay store (bargainhardwarestore).

    You can filter by things like 'business seller', 'returns accepted', 'authorised seller', 'brand outlet' to find some of the more serious
    sellers.
