Why not just download the media creation tool from the Microsoft web
site, then install W10 without a licence key ?

The extra features which you are "missing out" on are hardly worth
    worrying about.

I'll try the W7 key - might work on Pro but doubtful on LTSC edition.

I'm pretty sure that I did upgrade from W7 to W10 without buying a key.

On an aside, a friend recently bought an ex-business laptop. It was
delivered with Windows 11 Home "installed with a digital licence".

As she didn't trust the recycler, she re-installed Windows 11 from
scratch using the media creation tool, and was "rewarded" with an
activated install of Windows 11 Pro (not home), Installed with a
"digital licence linked to her Microsoft account"

So effectively her free update to Windows Pro?

    Tried that - invalid :-(
Decided to go with Pro because of the chance that it'd work. Might re-format and see if LTSC will install.
