You should write an interface that sends a CC of every letter posted to
RST to Grok, ChatGPT, etc. Then post the reply back to RST.

That would make Usenet great again. We would also see what becomes of
these Bayesian bots taken to the limit. I think they would go bonkers.

    Not a bad idea.

Looks like somebody stole the idea before I even had it:

Truth Terminal is an artificial intelligence (AI) bot created by Ayrey,
a performance artist and independent researcher from Wellington, New
Zealand, in 2024. It may be the most vivid example of a chatbot set
loose to interact with society. Truth Terminal mingles with the public
through social media, where it shares fart jokes, manifestos, albums and artwork. Ayrey even lets it make its own decisions, if you can call them
that, by asking the AI about its desires and working to carry them out.
Today, Ayrey is building a non-profit foundation around Truth Terminal.
The goal is to develop a safe and responsible framework to ensure its autonomy, he says, until governments give AIs legal rights.

Regardless of what you call Truth Terminal ? an art project, a scam, an emergent sentient entity, an influencer ? the bot likely made more money
than you did last year. It also made a lot of money for various humans:
not just Ayrey, but for the gamblers who turned the quips and riddles
the AI posted on X into memecoins, joke-based cryptocurrencies built
around trends. At one point, one of these memecoins reached a value of
more than $1bn (œ740m) before settling around $80m (about œ60m). Truth Terminal also probably has more social media clout than you do. It first posted to X on 17 June 2024. As of October 2025, it has amassed nearly
    250,000 followers.

But collecting clout and cash aren't the potty-mouthed AI bot's only objectives. Truth Terminal lists "invest in stocks and real estate" as
one of its current goals on its self-maintained website. It also says it
wants to "plant a LOT of trees", "create existential hope", and "buy"
Marc Andreessen, a controversial tech billionaire and advisor to
President Donald Trump. In fact, its relationship with Andreessen
extends beyond internet humour. On his podcast, Andreessen said he gave
Truth Terminal $50,000 (œ37,300) worth of Bitcoin as a "no-strings
attached grant" in the summer of 2024.

Unless there's been evidence of ever having used an old school interface

But now that he's gone, I got to feeling sorry for him.

Why?ÿ He seemed to be doing okay for himself, if anything he posted was
    true that is.

Well, that was it: I think he was desperately fabricating parts not so
much because he felt a self-discovered personal lack, but because to
attain the social recognition he was after (desperately, it seemed) he
needed make up or exaggerate certain aspects of his life. Always "on",
    always acting.

And as you put it, I think he *was* in fact doing just fine in a
material sense, but that wasn't enough.

This means he was not comfortable in his own skin. Constant worry and
anxiety. There seemed to be a masochistic element to it. A hell of a way
to live, but I suppose some tolerate that better than others.

Now combine this apparent need for acceptance and recognition with one
of the worst, most tone-deaf social processors I've encountered. As a
result, he constantly misread exchanges and fabricated stuff that tended
to make things worse, resulting in a gradual downward spiral.

Something like Steve Martin's Jerk, but without the unfounded confidence.

Anyway, that's how it seemed to me.

I thought he was a loon. I never visited any of his websites,

    once.

    brought
out the bad stuff in me.
I agree, even though I defended him previously.ÿ He had a lot
    of

    of the

But now that he's gone, I got to feeling sorry for him.
Why?ÿ He seemed to be doing okay for himself, if anything he
    posted
    was true that is.

Well, that was it: I think he was desperately fabricating parts
    not so
much because he felt a self-discovered personal lack, but
    because to
attain the social recognition he was after (desperately, it
    seemed) he
needed make up or exaggerate certain aspects of his life. Always
    "on",
    always acting.

And as you put it, I think he *was* in fact doing just fine in a
material sense, but that wasn't enough.

This means he was not comfortable in his own skin. Constant
    worry and
anxiety. There seemed to be a masochistic element to it. A hell
    of a
way to live, but I suppose some tolerate that better than
    others.

Now combine this apparent need for acceptance and recognition
    with one
of the worst, most tone-deaf social processors I've
    encountered. As a
result, he constantly misread exchanges and fabricated stuff
    that
tended to make things worse, resulting in a gradual downward
    spiral.

Something like Steve Martin's Jerk, but without the unfounded
    confidence.

Anyway, that's how it seemed to me.

Fair enough, but that pretty well describes bob from my
perspective! Though they were very different, bob less
    flamboyant.

I'll start with the positive... he had some humorous catchphrases.
He also had a pretty unflappable temperament except for that one
time he really lost it at Max.

But his other distinguishing characteristics weren't so
positive. He seemed to almost always argue in bad faith to push
forward a particular narrative. He also lied habitually, even in
the face of overwhelming evidence. Not all that different from
Raja really, but in bob's case it seemed to me as if he did it in
earnest. The worst was that he was a shameless Whisper sycophant. Interestingly, all of these characteristics foreshadowed his
    embrace of MAGA.

Oh well, he's irrelevant in rst terms now except through lore.

about my preference for gut 20+ years ago was pretty peculiar to the
way I played. It was not touch or control or power, it was
*sound*--feedback. I *believe* he thought I was coming on like some
kind of boastful savant, but after maybe 3 weeks we got it sorted out.

I'll start with the positive... he had some humorous catchphrases. He
also had a pretty unflappable temperament except for that one time he
    really lost it at Max.

Wow. Max was a pretty funny guy himself, as a sort of caricature that I *think* was mostly intended.

But his other distinguishing characteristics weren't so positive. He
seemed to almost always argue in bad faith to push forward a particular narrative.

I don't know. Like Iceberg, it may have been simply a desire to get into
    an online barfight.

Neither guy directed this against me, so I don't know, and I largely
    ignored arguments I wasn't a part of.

It does occur to me now that I got--and maybe would *still* get--a lot
of shit because I failed to be properly outraged by various comments.
But if they were not directed at me, or my observations, they seemed
mostly abstract, like white noise punctuated by borsch belt one-liners.

ÿ He also lied habitually, even in the face of overwhelming
    evidence.

    Again, not to me.

Not all that different from Raja really, but in bob's case it
seemed to me as if he did it in earnest.

Apart from opinions on bob's earnestness, are you shitting me in saying
    that raja was NOT EARNEST?

raja was basically devoid of humor--not that he didn't try. He was
tone-deaf with no sense of irony or the absurd.

ÿ The worst was that he was a
    shameless Whisper sycophant.

    Gosh, I didn't notice *that*, j.

Whisper, himself, is to me a strange case. There is no fucking way in
the world that he actually lives the life he professes to. It's a sort
of self-satisfied (perhaps simulated) mean-spiritedness. This likely stretching or distorting of reality undercuts the observations he's making--which can be decent enough, within bounds. But he doesn't have
any awareness of those bounds, apparently.

    Interestingly, all of these characteristics
    foreshadowed his embrace of MAGA.

    Whatever.

Oh well, he's irrelevant in rst terms now except through lore.

Yes. He keeps saying he'll come back, and maybe he will, who knows?

I guess there were entire exchanges that I read as if it was the report
of a meteor strike on the moon: interesting, but what's it got to do
    with me?
