Would you like to be more informed about what's going on in the world of
Sega? Well, I would too! And somehow, here we are in a newsgroup that
hasn't seen more than a handful of new posts in any given year for a
decade or more. How do you expect to get new info here? Well, how
about an old fashioned news roundup!

    NEWS:
Hideki Sato passes away at Age 75
Let's get the big news out of the way first. Hideki Sato was in charge
of R&D for every Sega home console (all the way from the SG-1000 through
the Dreamcast), and was briefly president of Sega prior to the Sammy
merger. Pour one out for a true legend.

Virtua 5 R.E.V.O World Stage Switch 2 Beta Test
If you are an owner of a Switch 2 system, you still have a couple days
left to try out the open beta of Virtua 5 R.E.V.O. World State on the
system. The beta runs through 10 PM Eastern on February 23, so get in
    while you can!

    Sega/Atlus Lunar New Year Sale
To the surprise of absolutely no one, digital Sega and Atlus games are
on sale (again) to celebrate the year of the horse! Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii for 70% off, Metaphor Re Fantazion for 50% off, Total
War Warhammer III for 75% off, and more discounts! Check them out here:

Coloco DX Back in Stock at Tuxedo Game Devs
A very professional indie Mega Drive game from Tuxedo Game Devs is back
in stock! If you like gravity-based games like Sub-Terrania, give this
one a try. It's got three different difficulty levels to fit your
personal preference for pain. Physical only for now, but we can hope at
some point they put out a rom for sale.

NEW RELEASES (from the past month or so):
Ryu ga Gotoku / Yakuza Kiwami 3 + Dark Ties
A remake of the 3rd game in the RGG / Yakuza series, with more
as-yet-unported Sega arcade games like Slashout, Magical Truck Adventure
and Emergency Call Ambulance! Looks like a TON of side missions have
been stripped out of this one though, so if the arcade games aren't a
draw, maybe stick to the Yakuza Remastered Collection isntead.Released
    on PC, Switch 2, PS5, PS4, and Xbox X/S on 2016.02.12.

    Eye Brawls
A new homebrew game based on the 1982 arcade maze shooter game Eyes.
It's a maze shooter, so think Pac-man but instead of eating the dots you
shoot them! You're being chased by eyes who can also shoot at you! This
was originally developed for Colecovision, but since SG-1000 is nearly identical hardware, they went ahead and ported it to the Sega system
too! Released digitally as an SG-1000 (and Colecovision) ROM on 2026.01.30

    Karous
Originally released back in 2007 on Dreamcast, now there's a Steam port available from publisher RS34. Technically not "Sega" news since Sega
isn't the dev or publisher, but since it was originally a DC exclusive,
I'll allow it. Released digitally on 2026.01.22

    Final Fight MD
Missed this in the previous news roundup, so including it here. It's a homebrew Genesis/Mega Drive port of the Final Fight arcade game, created
from scratch without using any source code from the original! A demo of
this was releases earlier, but it looks like it's now got the full game.
Technically it's in beta as there are still bugs and upcoming
features, but check it out anyway! Released as a Genesis/Mega Drive ROM
    on 2025.12.25

UPCOMING RELEASES (within the next month or so):
Nothing I'm aware of. If you know of any, please share. But maybe a
break isn't such a bad thing!

That's it for this week. If anyone reads this I'll be surprised, but
feel free to reply with your own sega news bits (and links please) and
I'll include them in the next roundup!
