• Steam Deck as a portable emulation powerhouse

    Hello.

First time posting in this newsgroup, I?m just wondering if anyone here has
a Steam Deck and have used it to emulate older systems.

While it?s certainly bulky, I think that if you?re not too keen on
maintaining 1:1 compatibility with the original hardware, a Steam Deck with Emudeck is a great solution for on-the-go retro gaming.

Lately, I?m using my Steam Deck to emulate PS1 games. Being an emulated
system also gave me the opportunity to track my progress in games using a third-party service such RetroAchievements.

What?s your favored way of playing retro games? Do you stick with the
original hardware? Prefer hardware emulation such as an FPGA, or are
satisfied with how software emulation is nowadays and go that route?

    Curious to hear your thoughts.

    Cheers,

My younger brother has a Steam Deck and he absolutely swears by it for emulation.

As for me, I like to play on orignal hardware when possible, but I often emulate stuff on my mac with OpenEmu too. It really just depends on how obtainable the particular the game is and if emulating would be easier.

A steamdeck is something I'd like to look into in the future, but
honestly, I don't really feel the need a portable solution at the
moment. Usually when I'm not home, I'm working, driving, or actively
doing something else. So most of my gaming takes place at home.

NO-SPAM is obviously not my email domain. You might try the Roman
version of Hera if you really need to email me.
