• Too polite to mention the weather

From Ed P@3:633/10 to All on Friday, January 30, 2026 15:58:49
Every day at 6:30 I send a text to a friend in PA/NJ. Every Saturday I
talk to another friend and send a text on Friday to be sure we are both available.

I noticed they are both having single digit temperatures today and well
below zero tonight. In both cases, I told them I will not go on about
how it is 73 degrees this afternoon as it would not be nice of me to do
    that.

It's 51øF here today. The weather people are talking about expecting
snow in this area Saturday. I am not terribly excited about it. I
wouldn't be surprised if the temps dipped into the 20's overnight on
Saturday. But even if it does snow on Saturday, unless something really freaky happens it will melt by Sunday.

Florida was lovely in the winter, but awful in the summer. Plus, Florida
is ugly. Google <ozark hills missouri> and click on images. The cultural environment is even uglier than the terrain.

OK. There is one pretty place in Florida. https://boktowergardens.org/

Don't look now but the low temp in Ft Myers Fl is 33 degrees F Sunday,

I'm a bit north of there. Our low is 32. I've been here 7 years and
that is the lowest I've seen. There will be a couple of places in the
    20s north of here.

Nice this afternoon, not so much Saturday and Sunday, though not as bad
as up north. There may even be some snow flurries in some areas.

Sunday, we will complain the high is 44, but when I lived in CT, we'd
    say "warmed up nice today"

That depends on how far South in Florida you are,
at this time of year I'd only try to bank on the
Keys to be for sure warm. Key West especially.

We lived in the Tampa Bay area, and it never got unpleasantly cold. I
had a job at a resort, and on chilly mornings part of my job was
building a fire in the clubhouse/restaurant's fireplace. That was fun,
other that sometimes having to confront raccoons near the woodpile. It
was the only source of heat. I remember swimming in an outdoor pool for
    more than 365 days straight.

That is if you don't mind seeing men french kissing.

I wouldn't watch. It doesn't gross me out thinking of men kissing other
men, just like it doesn't gross me out when *other people* eat Brussels sprouts or liver. The bridges between the Keys make me uneasy. I'd far
prefer this place to the Keys. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vieques,_Puerto_Rico
I wouldn't want to be anyplace like that during hurricane season. We
were in Puerto Rico six weeks before Hurricane Irma.

No. In fact I find male bodies more repugnant than most hetero guys do.
When I was in 7th and 8th grade, my brother was on the Varsity wrestling
team. I thought it looked like it'd be pretty repulsive, being that
close to a male body. That said, I'm not homophobic. I don't understand
why any guy wouldn't be happy that a potential competitor was removing
himself from the game. If most other guys were gay, that would increase opportunities for those of us who aren't. I'd love to have multiple

    How do you measure that?

Well, there's no way to quantify, but there's no question. AS is often,
I'll need to go into detail. A few nights ago, we watched this movie. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Women_on_the_6th_Floor
In one of the scenes, the two sons have cone back from boarding school,
and their mother was saying how they should be prepared to take over
their father's stock brokerage. The younger one, who appeared to be
about 11 or 12 said that he wanted to be a gynecologist. The mother
replied that that wasn't reasonable--a job where you spent all day with
you head between women's legs. The boy just looked over at his big
brother and smiled in a way that suggested, *My mother doesn't know me
    at all.*

I told Betsy that I would have loved to have my head between women's
legs all day, but that in order to become a physician, you have to deal
with corpses in medical school, and that, "As much as I love pussy, I
hate dead bodies way more." That came up again today, when I was
explaining one of the reasons that it was out of the question for me to
play high school (American) football was the locker room. There were
other reasons too, but being around the odor of sweaty males was a deal breaker.

I don't think that the way that I am about male bodies is perfectly
healthy, but it's also not particularly dysfunctional. Luckily, my
aversion is limited to the non-visual senses, and part of the reason is
    that I can turn away.
