• AI video

    From Adam H. Kerman@3:633/10 to All on Sunday, March 15, 2026 00:00:42
A few months ago, I was forced to stop watching YouTube. They ruined
uBlock Origin, serving videos for 30 seconds, then cutting off.
Disabling the add on, commercial interruptions were every two fucking
    minutes.

On a recommendation which I think I found on a demonitized part of
YouTube, I disabled uBlock Origin entirely and switched to AdNaseum,
which made YouTube watchable but on the rest of the Web, it's not even
close to being as effective as uBlock Origin had been. I don't see a way
to make it YouTube specific, using uBlock Origin for the rest of the
Web, I'd have to disable it then re-enable uBlock Origin for each page
    served to me.

It does something cute, clicks on every link in ads but blocks them from
being seen locally, to screw with statistics.

Since I'm back, it's no longer recommending lawyers I used to watch.
I've lost Steve Lehto but gained AI lawyers and doctors.

I find most AI obvious. The face can be pleasant; women all have apple
cheeks. The figure tends to be exactly in the center of the screen. The
hand gesture follow a couple of patterns. The shoulders are too stiff.
There was more animation in a Hanna-Barbera tv series like Huckleberry
    Hound.

The voices eventually break but in general are speaking too quickly.

Any other signs obvious to you?

Try the Brave browser. It has done a good of blocking ads for me.

I'm using Brave *and* Ghostery to block ads and I find that combination
works well. Either one by itself might be sufficient though.

I had a kind of similar situation, and I used 2 browsers. Well,
technically 3 browsers since I also use Edge when I absolutely have
to. This approach is not as cumbersome as it sounds.

I'd recommend installing a second browser. Put AdNaseum in one browser
and uBlock Origin in the other. Just think of the browser with AdNaseum
as a dedicated app for watching youtube.

I use ghostery. I have no idea how it compares to the blockers you
mentioned. I am not knowledgeable about this stuff, but I am happy with
it. It stopped working on youtube for a while a year or two ago, but
other than it has been effective on youtube.

You and shawn offered good suggestions. Actually, I can set up multiple profiles in Firefox, one using AdNaseum for YouTube and the other using uBlockOrigin for the rest of the Web.

I've just started playing with Firefox profiles. Is there a convenient
way to have multiple tabs open with different profiles?

I don't know of an easy way. I suppose you could have multiple
accounts with different settings and log into in a private window.
I noticed that opening a private window in Firefox opens a new window
that is not logged in. So you could log in to a secondary account with
    a different profile.

    No.

You'd have to start a second instance of Firefox from a command line
    with the -p option.

Thanks, that saves me some flailing away experimenting.
