I watched "Pilgrim of Eternity," the first episode of Star Trek
Continues. It's available on the YouTube Star Trek Continues channel.

I already posted a detailed review to rec.arts.startrek.misc, so I'll
just say that it was pretty good and in the style of classic ST:TOS.

I went on to watch "Lolani," which was also good. The team rescues a
young Orion woman who is being pursued by her owner, and Scotty is very susceptible to her pheromones. Jr yrnea gung, va guvf pbagvahvgl, gur

    was pretty good.

One interesting aspect was that the Orion man had a minor speech
impediment. I couldn't make out a few of his lines. This had no
relevance to the plot, so it may have been the actor's own impediment.
See, Hollywood? This is how you do representation. You skip the big
hairy episode where he's oppressed and has to fight for his rights, and
you just show him doing his job and living life like everyone else.
That's exactly how a Utopian future should handle 100% of (real) civil
rights issues (and fake ones should be ignored).

This is an extremely ambitious fan project, and it largely works. As
with the original series, they're trying to tackle large issues with
broadly drawn characters and unambiguous morals. It's ham and cheese,
but with an earnestness few modern showrunners are willing to risk.

I wish there were more fan projects like this. Intellectual property law
    is a barrier, of course,

I didn't finish Stage Fright. I watched some more, but the streaming
service where I found it is a real PITA. It's called Classic Movies and
TV, and it has a nice lineup of older stuff, but the ads were SO MUCH
LOUDER THAN THE SHOW that I gave up. I'll tackle it again some other
    day.

I watched the first four episode of Season 2 of PARADISE, which is mostly told from the perspective of the survivors, most notable Shailene Woodley, who spends the apocalypse in Graceland and surprisingly ends up being this show's Ned Stark (if you know, you know). Of course our main hero Xavier, who we last saw escaping the bunker in an airplane to go look for his wife in Atlanta, crash lands nearby.

Back in the bunker, things have taken a totalitarian turn and the lovely Sarah Shahi is not pleased with her billionaire besty's betrayal.

In a flashback, we see the billionaire interviewing the geophysicist who predicted the super volcano eruption telling her that after a few years, the ash cloud will dissipate, the induced winter will subside and the planet will go back to normal-- but only briefly. After that the Venus Syndrome will start accelerating. The temps will dramatically rise, the oceans will evaporate, blanketing the planet in a continuous cloud cover and all the moisture in the air will increase the atmospheric pressure to the point where anything that hasn't died from the heat will be crushed. So there's a ticking clock on all our survivors.

So far the show has maintained the pace and intrigue of the first season and I like where it's going.

I also watched the first episode of Season 2 of MONARCH. What can I say? I've always been a sucker for huge monsters stomping on cities. We get more of King Kong in this one and find out that he's guarding the portal to the "other side". Unfortunately he's not in time to stop the meddling humans from opening it and letting through an ultimate boss of a monster. Will Kong and Godzilla
be enough to stop this creature from tearing up the world? I can't wait to
    find out.
