I wonder why Canadians outlive Alabamians by 7 years?

    Must be all the poverty.

Canada has a higher life expectancy compared to Alabama.

Canada's life expectancy is dropping fast, considering how many of them are >> killing themselves. In 2025, 5.1% of total Canadian deaths were people who >> offed themselves with the MAID program. That's one out of every 20 Canadians
who died. And it's still rising, especially now that the Canadian government
has teams of telemarketers cold-calling people who are sick and pitching
    them
on how wonderful it would be if they'd just kill themselves.

Where did you hear about these telemarketers?

Either Steven Crowder or Matt Walsh talked it about on their show about a week ago. Can't remember which one.

I also heard that when the Canadian Hockey Team got home, they were all
offered MAID to help with the humiliation of losing to the USA. ;-)

The stories I hear about MAID (aka "Medical Assistance in Dying" aka euthanasia) and how loosely the regulations (which are SUPPOSED to be
only for those in terminal conditions but sometimes it seems as if we
all qualify we're ALL in a terminal condition since all of us will be
    gone 100 years from now)

Who knows? Maybe Wayne Gretzky's grandson will be part of a future US
gold medal - after all Wayne married an American and all his children
had dual citizenship BUT that doesn't get passed to grandchildren so
the grandkids only get citizenship for the country where they're born
    - which means ALL his grandkids who were born stateside.

It's not THAT unusual - I have a cousin who emigrated to France 35
years ago and her kids are all French and nothing else.

That item was well covered in Vancouver and given it was a veteran
crippled in the line of duty (Afghanistan I think but not 120% certain
as I am about the rest of it) it darned well SHOULD have caused a
    furor.

I just did a bit of a search for the original story; I found this, which >indicates that was not a one-off event:

The subject of this story KNOWS PERSONALLY of 5 other vets who've been >offered MAID and thinks the number who have been offered MAID nationally >might be as high as 20.

A couple of years ago, I was talking with a coworker about life in
general and she mentioned that she had two different acquaintances who
were dying that same week, both via MAID. I don't recall why.

Beginning on St. Patrick's Day 2027, the criteria for MAID are going to
be loosened further still and include people under 18.

Ouch! What I'm particularly concerned about that story is that there
have been all kinds of cases where minors have been offered all kinds
of medical treatments without notification of his or her parents. So
with respect given that you can see why I'm going ballistic about the possibility of minors deciding to off themselves.

I'm beyond appalled but I know of no way to stop this. Now that Trudeau
is gone, the Liberals are polling well again and Carney is likely to
have his majority soon, which will enable them to have their own way on >everything with no need to compromise.

Don't blame me! For what it's worth I've heard from people in the UK
that Carney was NOT beloved for his performance as chair of the Bank
of England there. To put it mildly. Funny you didn't hear those
comments during our last national election...
If Elon Musk or someone like that could kick in a few million, we might
be able to get Conservatives to win the upcoming by-elections (you call
them special elections) and that could stop the worst excesses but
Carney could then call a general election where he might win a fresh
mandate because he is actually polling well.

This country keeps going from bad to worse.

Yup I remember that case - to say it caused a furore was a mild
understatement to put it mildly. I don't know the answer to the
question in brackets - my answer to both would be "I sure as h*** hope
    so!")

Which is not an acronym the average the average Canadian would know
though I do know about the federal department. I believe in the US
that function is part of the military.

Are you TRYING to get me to post an obscene word? It would seem so.

Justin Trudeau was over 20 points behind in the polls when he handed
over to Carney and thanks to comments from DJT and others, that tanked
the Conservative party's campaign. That represents roughly a 35 point
swing since Trudeau resigned. No question the consensus is that Carney
is weak on policy but is judged better at restraining Trump.

Yes folks, you heard me - Trump has managed a 35 point swing in the
Canadian polls within the past year. That said Carney's policies range
    between appalling and laughable.

This country keeps going from bad to worse.
