I wouldn't have thought he would be one to do that. Also it's a
strange thing that I've never heard of any similar complaints over the
years. So I'm hopeful this is some sort of misunderstanding and he
isn't guilty.

Well, the article says he was served with an arrest warrant, so even he's not guilty of the abuse, he's apparently guilty of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
