• Could This Have Saved Star Trek: Enterprise?

From Ubiquitous@3:633/10 to All on Friday, October 24, 2025 04:30:42

Star Trek Enterprise had only really hit its stride and become a solid addition to the franchise by the third season of the show. The Zindi arc was well written and packed full of action, intrigue, and a compelling seasonl long story. But it was season 4 that made Enterprise the prequel it really should have been from the beginning. At last, we got stories that tied into longtime Trek cannon. Some brilliant episodes and fantastic writing. But for most fans, the highlight of that season was the two-part mirror universe episode, In a Mirror Darkly, where we see mirror universe versions of the
NX01 crew, and they encounter the USS Defiant from the original series episode, The Tholian Web. The ship was sent back in time and into the mirror universe, and we got a fun two-parter out of that show. Now, as fun as that two-parter was, it could have potentially been even better because William Shatner was originally supposed to appear in those two episodes playing Tiberius, the mirror universe version of Captain James T. Kirk.

Firing Berman and Braga years earlier? Possibly.

The mirror universe thread should've stayed where it started - in
TOS. It was SO lame how they folded it into a routine place to go like
getting milk at the corner store.

Trek always does this: It hints at SF, then turns
everything mundane. Even the Borg turned out to be Just
    Like Us in the end.

I absolutely hate origins that turn alien characters into just normal
humans who got transformed from the silver surfer to the Daleks to the intolerant Galactose himself.

There's always the opposite approach, where humans are brought to Earth
and other planets by aliens (Stargate would be one example). :-)

Stargate history has never made much sense. Apparently the first iteration
of humans came to earth from Pegasus and then were completely wiped out and then re-emerged on earth independently, which seems unlikely, and then the goauld came here in unas form and started culling slaves and spreading them across the galaxy?

Part of the reason is that there are actually two separate versions of Stargate franchise - the movie version and the TV version. Even now

It seems we are simpatico about the lack of creativity in modern
    media.

Today's mantra is, reboot something that worked in past, change the
genders and races of the heroes because no one will notice, then
complain about the lack of audience when it fails. Forgetting the notion
that the audience being targeted don't wish to be the subject of
pandering. Don't forget to kill off the heroes of the past and inject a
purple haired woman to replace him.

While I did enjoy the Galactica reboot, I was only slightly irked that
they changed Starbuck's sex. I would have loved the reboot if they made it
less predictable. The secret was revealed on the pilot, iirc. Haven't
seen the show in two decades, so I could be wrong.

Today's mantra is, reboot something that worked in past, change the
genders and races of the heroes because no one will notice, then
complain about the lack of audience when it fails. Forgetting the notion
that the audience being targeted don't wish to be the subject of
pandering. Don't forget to kill off the heroes of the past and inject a purple haired woman to replace him.

While I did enjoy the Galactica reboot, I was only slightly irked that
they changed Starbuck's sex. I would have loved the reboot if they made it less predictable. The secret was revealed on the pilot, iirc. Haven't
seen the show in two decades, so I could be wrong.

I don?t think the secret about star dough was revealed until the finale

Of course, the comic book industry is just as bad, with massive contridcitions thanks to continually altering the stories. :-(

Of course, it's not really anything new either. If you look back at the original old stories for things like Robin Hood and King Arthur, they
were "rebooted" numerous times long before most people could even read,
let alone TV and movies were invented. Many of the characters (Maid
Marion for example), etc. were later additions to the stories by other
    people.

Maid Marion originally had her own story, in which she
defended herself against a knight who meant to rape her,
killed him, and had to flee to the woods. I'm guessing
some forgotten storyteller thought that Robin and Marion
    would make a good crossover.

Robin originally dated a gal named Clorinda, described as
"the queen of shepherdesses" but without much else to go
    on.

In a blaze of stupidity, which goes to show what a wretched program it was, they actually addressed that when the producers told the audience that the spines don?t actually glow and the other characters wouldn?t see it, but
they just did it so the audience would know which Cylons were having

That's a more expensive upgrade and you also have to get the glowy orgasm
spine at the same time. They're not sold separately.
