The Faith of Beasts (The Captive's War, volume 2) By James S. A. Corey

In which a shrinking community of human survivors learn much about their alien conquerors... none of it good.

This reminds me of a genre of "science fiction" which has been showing
up in my YouTube suggestions. The big Galactic Empire sends ships to
invade Earth. Earth mops them up in 10 minutes. An Earth cadet attends
a galactic military college... and despite being a mere slip of a
girl, mops the floor with half a dozen hulking reptilian alien
bullies, because Earth's gravity is the most intense in the galaxy.

The way life is these days, I guess we need stuff to cheer us up.

This is known as 'HFY" fiction, for "Humanity: Fuck Yeah!".

It originated on Tumblr about 10 years, go most I see is
on the /r/HFY Reddit sub. Then (as now) the stories were
hand written, and some were/are quite good (and some,
    episodically, of Biblical length).

Here's a very early tumblr post, that kicked off a lot
    of it:

Channels for these stories appeared on YT, first
ripping off the authors on reddit, but now the vast majority
are clearly written and voiced by AI, despite the earnest
disclaimers at the start. They're fun in moderation, but its
like eating Pringles: you soon notice that they all follow
a very short list of plots.

Maybe that's why I left 'Independence Day' feeling unsatisfied. This was
the basic premise, although the production levels were astounding.

Not much of a story after those previews of UFOs decimating buildings
    beneath them.
