  • Observations on Harry Potter

    As I have mentioned before, I listen to novels and anthologies while
    doing long (4-7 miles) walks to help lose weight (50 lbs so far). One
    series I am listening to is Harry Potter. They are long, relatively easy enough that I don't have to concentrate on listening and can instead
    watch for traffic to make sure some idiot doesn't run me down, and I
    like to find plot holes. You could drive a D-11 Caterpillar Bulldozer
    through some of them. But overall they are not bad.

    She does get one thing almost perfect, Dolores Umbridge. There are few
    more loathsome characters I have run across that are also believable. Something must have happened to JKR to inspire this character.

    I must also say that the actress who portrayed her, Imelda Staunton,
    nailed the role.

    I discovered I could get _paid_ for walking by becoming front of house
    staff in a large theatre, then working my way up to house manager. Most
    shifts, I speed walk around the facility for four hours. Recommended,
    if you like the idea of being involved in theatre but don't insist on
    ever getting to see it.
