?Facing reality over Iran? by Peter Grant, science fiction author

    https://bayourenaissanceman.blogspot.com/2026/03/facing-reality-over-iran.html

"I'm getting more and more fed up with politicians, commentators,
journalists and so-called "experts" all saying that President Trump's
decision to strike Iran was misguided, wrong-headed and stupid.ÿ The
same goes for all the European and other nations refusing to provide
support, military or otherwise, for the joint US-Israeli campaign in
    that country."

"The blunt fact of the matter is that for almost half a century, the
West has wrung its hands, expressed dismay and shock, and uttered pious platitudes every time Iran did something evil.ÿ Whether it was murdering
tens of thousands of their own citizens, or exporting terrorism to many
parts of the world, or bombing Israel, nothing Iran did elicited a
suitably strong response from the West.ÿ All they did was talk.ÿ They
did not act.ÿ With every incident, they kicked the can further down the
road, for future politicians and leaders to do something about it - but
    they never did."

"President Trump and his leadership team recognized that the can could
not be kicked any further.ÿ The time had come to act, to stop Iran
potentially wreaking havoc all over the world.ÿ The key moment of
decision probably came during negotiations in Switzerland in late February."

    https://nypost.com/2026/03/03/us-news/iran-claimed-to-have-enough-uranium-for-11-nuclear-bombs-during-geneva-talks-us-envoy-witkoff-says/

"Iranian officials told their US counterparts during crunch talks last
month that the Islamic Republic possessed enough enriched fuel to build
11 nuclear bombs, President Trump?s special envoy claimed Monday night."

"?Both the Iranian negotiators said to us directly with, you know, no
shame, that they controlled 460 kilograms of 60% [enriched uranium],?
Steve Witkoff told Fox News host Sean Hannity, ?and they?re aware that
that could make 11 nuclear bombs, and that was the beginning of their negotiating stance.?"

It was time to do something. President Trump has solved the Venezuela problem, he is solving the Iran problem, and he will solve the Cuba
    problem next.

Trump repeatedly insults his allies, going so far as to declare them
cowards. He lies about their past support of the US, deprecates their military achievements in prior wars, says he doesn't need them.

He launches a war without consulting them. He gives no consistent war
aims, no justification for attacking now, again while negotiations are continuing.

He does not consider the consequences of his attacks. No plans in place
for evacuating civilians, and above all no plans for ensuring safe
passage of ships through the strait of Hormuz. Despite the vast size of
    the navy he commands.

He doesn't seem to have even imagined that Iran would do that which it
    was certain to do.

Then he tells his allies that they must use their forces to make up for
his blunders, and threatens them if they do not.

That is stupid. "Misguided and wrong-headed" are not strong enough terms.

    Just stupid.

People said that about Emperor Huizong and his successor Emperor Qinzong
but because of them, a great dynasty arose.

    1) If anyone is in a position to 'spray nuclear devices' around the
middle east, it is Israel. There's no evidence that Iran
had an explosive nuclear device, and no evidence that they
intended to use one in the future. We didn't have to worry about it at all.
(Note that it was Trump in the first term who actually destroyed the
international nuclear monitoring agreement with Iran, unilaterally).

    2) If they had used one, even Iran knows that the country wouldn't
have survived the aftermath. They might be religious nutters,
    but they ain't crazy.

Misguided, wrong-headed and stupid are accurate descriptions of
the soi disant Trump foreign policies.

I do tend to agree that no verbal term is strong enough to indicate the
    degree
of un-reality in which DJT operates.
With a reasonable person such as George Bush you convince the people either
through presentation of what evidence of need to intervene you have
    which may be
lies as in the Iraq War or truth as with FDR and convince the Congress
    of the need
for action. With Congress and the people behind you you get a
    declaration of War
    or funding for military action.

Trump did not do that so the majority of the people who are really the Government of the USA are not convinced of the need for his actions
    something
like 20% for and 60% against his war on Iran.
And he ran on a platform of no more extended Foreign Wars and within
15 months of assuming office he violates that pledge.
He campaigned on removing criminals who happened to be immigrants
from the nation but he is intent on mass deportation of workers and refugees
as well as hapless American Citizens who are caught up by the ICE raiders.

He said he would cut waste and "drain the swamp" meaning getting rid
of the parasites on the political machinery of the nation. He is destroying
a working govenment and has become the chief parasite on the American
people and the Government. Also he has torn down the East Wing for
the sake of his speculative ballroom which may never be built. Now he
has brought out an architect who wants the Ionic columns on the front
of the White House to the Corinthian mode which was emblematic of
the decadence of the original builders.

bliss - who believes that SF Writers should write more and better
    stories but
keep out of local politics, past, and fictional regimes are their metier.

    that now.

    1) If anyone is in a position to 'spray nuclear devices' around the
ÿÿÿ middle east, it is Israel.ÿÿ There's no evidence that Iran
ÿÿÿ had an explosive nuclear device, and no evidence that they
ÿÿÿ intended to use one in the future. We didn't have to worry about
    it at all.
ÿÿÿ (Note that it was Trump in the first term who actually destroyed
    the
ÿÿÿÿ international nuclear monitoring agreement with Iran,
    unilaterally).

    2) If they had used one, even Iran knows that the country wouldn't
ÿÿÿ have survived the aftermath.ÿ They might be religious nutters,
    ÿÿÿ but they ain't crazy.

Misguided, wrong-headed and stupid are accurate descriptions of
the soi disant Trump foreign policies.

So you are saying that Trump is lying about Iran claiming to have 460
kg of 60% enriched uranium.ÿ Man, I am sure am glad that you are not
running the USA as competency does not seem to be your forte.

There is a difference between having some partially enriched uranium
(60% isn't weapons grade) and having working nuclear weapons.

Yes, two weeks according to Trump's people.

Trump and his people are largely incompetent so...
That is not a winning argument.
Joe Kent resigned because he saw no evidence of Iran being
an immediate danger to the USA. Trump moved because the files
describing his rape of children were being released and he needed
to offset that with some bold action. He had planned for these
attacks waiting for Israel's intelligence to tell him that they were
    ready to go.

    bliss

That is stupid. "Misguided and wrong-headed" are not strong enough

    Just stupid.

Well at least you owned up to being gullible. Saddam claimed to have
WMDs too. Pure bluff. And of course W knew he didn't have anything-
that ridiculous dog and pony show Powell put on at the UN was
pathetically transparent- but people felt like they had to go along with
it in the post-9/11 mania to DO SOMETHING!!! Except for Robert Byrd, who
in that one speech atoned for all his horrible racist actions he
    committed before.

And of course Trump knew Iran didn't have WMDs too. He's too much of a
pussy to go after anyone with that capability. And there was, as others
have already said, the much more important consideration of distracting
people from the evidence that he raped little girls. And he's got the
entire Repugly party stamping their feet and shouting "NO PEDO RAPE
    HERE! NO PEDO RAPE HERE!"

Just as he did two years ago, Netanyahu attacked Iran not to prevent
them from getting a nuclear weapon, but to prevent them from getting a
nuclear weapon deal. He's as evil as Trump.

You think our worries on that score are over?

Iran could still launch a ?dirty bomb?. Or rather, a ?dirty
projectile?, loaded up with some small amount of that enriched
uranium. Think of the mess that will make wherever it comes down.
Doesn?t matter if it gets intercepted by one of Israel?s Iron Dome
anti-missile missiles -- that will just spread the contamination over
    an even wider area.
