in RTD - a bigoted, one dimensional hack of a writer, and the show died

I would argue RTD2 did significantly more damage to the show than Chibnall did. Chibnall's retcons can be retconned themselves and forgotten about easily. What can't be easily retconned is the absolute cockup that is now the mainline of actors that have played the Doctor. David Tennant on there
twice!? ffs. it's a joke. In a span of not evne 3 years, we've gone from 13th doctor to know 16th doctor. Each doctor used to be an era, now it doesn't
mean anything anymore.

He blamed "toxic fandom" back during his first run in 2005 when fans didn't like garbage like "Love and Monsters" or that stupid episode with the fat- penguins. You might say he was attacking the fans "before it was cool" to
do so.

L&M sucks like Gridlock and Midnight.

The latter pair grew on me after a rewatch; the former did not (and
has never).

AFAIC RTD's second run consisted more of episodes along the lines of
L&M (the space babies being a particularly cringeworthy early example)
and he's made no secret of having wanting to do musicals, etc first
time round, but such excesses were constrained by the BBC.

I'd rather RTD had departed and Gatwa stayed, as I thought he was
pretty good in the Moffat-penned Joy to the World
