I'd like to expand my Usenet reading (and maybe even
posting), so I'd like
to know which groups are good and active and worth spending
some time
with!
ÿÿÿÿÿWhar are your interests.
I'm thinking, if we each share here our favourite 2 or 3
newsgroups, then
we might all have some new avenues to take ourselves down
in this old
Usenet neck of the woods.
ÿÿÿÿÿMine are the anime and manga newsgroups plus
rec.arts.sf.written.
sf is for Speculative Fiction which represents the merging
of Fantasy and
Science Fiction.
ÿÿÿÿÿWell that is because you are not posting there. And I am
not much into
current anime my last major shows being Genshiken and Yawara.
I do a little
still in rec.arts.manga but have presently no funds for anime
nor for manga
Tank?bon or anime DVDs. Running very short on storage space as
I have
ÿÿÿÿSNIP
ÿÿÿÿÿI watched over 100 anime shows via VHS and DVD rentals in
the
early 2000s to get an idea of the contents.ÿ I have read many
more
manga for much the same reason and found out what I like to read
Manga is published in Japan in such high volumes and variety
that it is
beyond a single human's capability to keep up with it all.
ÿÿÿÿÿbliss
i havent seen those particular anime, but i have seen a LOT.
ÿÿÿÿWell if you look around a bit you may find a lot of this
online.ÿ The
owner of theÿ rights to Yawara refused to license most of the
series and
sub-titling groups took over and completed the series
distributing the
whole thing online. If you want more information post in that group
and I will respond.
ÿÿÿÿGenshiken was subtitled and distributed in a similar fashion
when
the author of the manga on which the anime was based moved on to
new stories.
ÿÿÿÿNow if you post about what you like you may get responses or
not.
ÿÿÿÿ But I started out when the anime field was barely
open and watched Tenchi Muyo OVA on VHS tape.ÿ I got into this
because I needed to rest for a couple of hours every afternoon
and anime did that for me.ÿ The first series I followed and formerly
had a complete set of was Maison Ikkoku which is a romcom by
a very good author, Takahashi Rumiko.ÿ To better understand what
I was watching I bought two books, The Anime Companion and
the Anime Companion 2.ÿ I also went to the SF Public Library and
got books about the field.ÿ As a result I studied Japanese History,
books about Japanese society and customs to better understand
what I was watching.ÿ When I had learned a bit more I got into
Kimagure Orange Road which is another romcom featuring a HS
love triangle.ÿ Planetes is a space rom com featuring the team
that cleans up orbital debris and is better than a lot of written
science fiction.
ÿÿÿÿIf I had not suffered brain damage as result of my illness
I might have been able to learn Japanese to read the books
as written. Translation is unreliable though it may be better
now.
ÿÿÿÿblissÿ --- I had one grunch but the eggplant over there..

i know a little bit of japanese, bit of kanji and compounds and
conjugations and... i would say near level n4. but having watched so
much anime, in terms of understanding the spoken word, closer to n2 probably.. n3 realistically.
