It is a great deal of fun, and offhand I don't recall any service (though
I won't swear to that). There's a reason it's so popular.
You have to remember when watching it that every Horsegirl is based on an actual horse racing in Japan in the 70s and 80s. The personalities of the horsegirls are based on the personalities of the horses they represent.
The races won and lost by each horsegirl are the same races won and lost
by the original horse.
Even more amazing, the recreations of races are accurate to the races run, even as far as the minor characters who finish, say, 8th. It's fun to pull
up a Youtube video of an old Japanese horserace and compare it to the race sequence in the anime.
The writers do a good job in hanging character arcs upon this scaffold,
too. Worth a watch, maybe worth falling down the 70s Japanese Horse
Racing rabbithole.
