Based on news reports, there is nothing to see here. The outline of
'fix the basics' and 'build for the future' is uninspiring to National supporters and for those who consider Luxon a rich-prick political
opponent nothing changes.
Luxon and National are not up to getting spending down and tax revenue
up. Their strategy is to increase tax revenue by increasing taxable
company profits and this is not happening yet. It may not happen in
time to save them.
The election campaign is likely to be difficult for National with a
leader who cannot inspire. Labour under Hipkins is headed for the
middle ground of politics compared to the tax-and-spend policies of
previous leadership and current coalition partners.
