https://www.youtube.com/shorts/s_0yt4U2mKA is very concerning! Debian to
be purchased by Microsoft? $7.3 Billion for Debian, which includes all
distros that are "forked": Ubuntu, Mint, Peppermint, Kali and others. Microsoft plans to make˙ them a more "Windows" like GUI, eliminating the command line interface. $79.95 for Debian, $179 for Ubuntu.

    IS THIS FOR REAL?????

This hints to it being not for real. As far as I'm aware, it's really
not possible to sell a project and somehow get all the forks sucked
    along in.

I doubt selling Debian to Microsoft would be possible. I'll hazard a
guess literally no one involved in the project would agree to such a deal.

No, it's obviously bullshit. In fact, the comments suggest it was an
    old April Fool's joke...

Anyone who even remotely considers this to be true should not be
    allowed to vote.

Debian can't be for sale as being for sale has "having an owner" as a prerequisite.

AFAIK, Debian turned down MS's offer because John Mastodon's counter
offer was better aligned with its values, even tho it came with much
    less $$$.

"Winbuntu" was the only word that seemed realistic. Canonical is a
for-profit company, after all. Ah... i clicked on the YouTube link in
    the article and watched it.

Debian can't be for sale as being for sale has "having an owner" as a prerequisite.

Someone ultimately owns the trademarks and copyrights of Debian.
Technically the name, logos, slogans and branding could be sold. The
software is all Free Software. Debian has no closed source proprietary applications. There is no way someone could take over Canonical by
purchasing Debian's branding. Ubuntu is a trademark of Canonical not Debian.
