• How to start a 'NetInstal'

    From MartinGary Padgett@3:633/10 to All on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 07:00:01
    For years I have been able from a CD-R disk containing a 'Netinstall'
    various versions of Debian. I usually used the 'Install' option provided;
    and in due course I was successful. Unfortunately since at least the
    beginning of February such is no longer the case.
    Now 'Install' -- and for that matter all the other options -- opens with a
    full screen containing 45 horizontal lines 1 mm thick, 1 cm apart. Between
    each line there are various small illegible symbols. Pressing the up and
    down keys of the screen will move these lines, replacing others either up
    or down.
    I would certainly like to reopen my computer as soon as possible and would appreciate advice as how to do so.

    By the way the installer I am currently using is '12.7.0' "Bookworm" '64 NetInstal', which used to work but does not now.

    What make and model is your GPU? You may need to try booting your selection appending "nomodeset" to the linu line before proceeding.

    I just launched the "netboot" installer successfully using the method described at
    https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/amd64/ch04s04.en.html (?4.4.1) and Grub instead of using a USB stick with the NET .iso, both for Trixie and Bookworm on a
    PC with i5-7100T CPU and HD Graphics 630.
