  • No sound in MPlayer

    Hi,

    I just installed Debian Trixie KDE on my HP Z440 workstation.

    All repositories (including deb-multimedia) are activated.

    Besides VLC I also like to use MPlayer. I installed the command-line
    client. Video works OK, but I have no sound with MPlayer.

    Here's the error message I get when starting a video:

    Hello Nicolas,

    - deb-multimedia.org (dmo) is not an official Debian repository and I
    would advise against its use (I have used it long ago but not anymore): https://wiki.debian.org/DebianMultimedia/FAQ

    - have you tried an -ao option (audio output) in mplayer? what audio
    system is KDE using? Pipewire?

    I just did two things.

    1) I filed a bug report to Christian Marillat, the maintainer of deb-multimedia.

    2) In the meantime I followed the suggestion of a colleague and replaced mplayer with mpv. Works like a charm.

    Problem solved, I guess. Thanks everybody for your input.
