• Diablo: Tristram Village music on a 7 and 12 string guitar. This is so

I have always loved the music to the Diablo games, and play a little
acoustic guitar. Never heard of a 7 string guitar or seen a guitar
    that looks like it (body,...)

Any way, I think this guy is something else. And, I am playing Diablo
II Resurected now off and on.

His version of the Tristram theme sounds really nice. It is one of my
favorite pieces of music from video games. Thank you for posting a
    link to it.

Any way, I think this guy is something else. And, I am playing Diablo

I ignored D2R in favor of a modded version of D2, but the expansion
pack they just released improved the game in ways that are important
to me. I am thinking of getting it.

Not to dismiss the guy's skill, but I'm not quite as much of a fan of
this version. It really needs the oboe (I think?) as counterpoint to
the guitar (and the bass for the deeper bits). Even doubled up with
the guy playing two guitars at once, his rendition sounds hollow and
flat in comparison to the original. It only sounds as good as it does
because the tune itself is that good.

TIL about D2DX, which adds higher resolution support for the original
Diablo 2. Since I own the original (and don't want to give ActiMicroBlizzVisionSoftArd anymore money or be forced to use
Battle.Net for a single-player experience) this is an ideal solution.

Resurrected. It is called Reign of the Warlock. It adds a new class
    and QoL improvements.

That is nutso too. I wouldn't have thought that was possible with a
mandolin but I say Ricky Scaggs play here a few years ago. Cripes. I
bet he must have been around 80 or so! Maybe that was Charlie Daniels

As an aside, I just tried D2DX. Or rather, tried to try playing it. I
never actually got into the game because it kept throwing exception
errors whenever it tried to switch into the actual gameplay portion of
the experience. The menu looked nice though.

I don't blame D2DX though. It wasn't the cause of the problems. It was
more the version of "Diablo 2" I picked, I think. I installed from my
original CD-ROMs and then manually patched my way up to a compatible
version. I didn't want to have to bother with installing/signing-up to Battle.Net and using the version you can get there. But the CD-ROM
version was released in 2000, back before even Windows XP was
released. I can hardly fault it for not liking modern hardware and
    operating systems.

It was probably a solvable issue (if only by swallowing my pride and downloading a working version from Battle.Net) but after putzing
around with the game for a while, I asked myself: "What the hell am I
doing? I don't even like Diablo 2 all that much!" So I uninstalled the
game and moved on with my life.

But, like I said, the menu looked nice under D2DX ;-)

I considered it right up to the "you have to be online at all times,
wait in line for access, get lag and disconnects, etc" part. Got right
sick of that with D3, which is why it was uninstalled after 6 weeks and
never reinstalled, where D2 was installed and played for a decade.

I will not buy a game that forces me to be connected to battlenet.
    Period, Full Fucking Stop.

A Decade of D2 playing, always not connected to battlenet.

Give me a revamped D2, that like D2 only made you connect to that shit

I mean, don't get me wrong. It's a good game. It's garnered its
reputation as a classic for a reason. But it's not a game _I_ enjoyed
that much. In part because --for a while-- the action/RPG formula
popularized by "Diablo" dominated the market, at the expense of more traditional (dare I say 'more sophisticated'?) CRPGs. Being a fan of
the latter, it biased me for a long time against the former (I've
mostly gotten over it since then. Mostly. ;-). But also, the
loot-centric gameplay loop of the Diablo games never stimulated me; I
just don't get excited about getting a new sword that does 5% more
    damage, or whatever.

So I've played the games, and to some degree even enjoyed them to some
degree. I'd even have replayed the game with the D2DX mod had it
worked. I just didn't feel it was worth the effort to get to that
    point.

Maybe one day I'll give it another shot, though. DevilutionX (the
fan-made "Diablo" mod) was a drop-in solution for getting the first
game to work, and it was a fairly effortless upgrade... enough so that
I just leave that game forever on my hard-disk, and occassionally even
fire it up for a quick dungeon-delve. If ever DXD2 gets to that point,
I've no problem giving "Diablo 2" the same treatment.

D2R has an offline mode which is the way I am going to play it if I
buy it because I want to use mods. You do need to connect to your
BattleNet account once every 30 days, however. I am ok with this. If

Any way, I think this guy is something else. And, I am playing Diablo

I ignored D2R in favor of a modded version of D2, but the expansion
pack they just released improved the game in ways that are important
to me. I am thinking of getting it.

I will not buy a game that forces me to be connected to battlenet.
    Period, Full Fucking Stop.

A Decade of D2 playing, always not connected to battlenet.

Give me a revamped D2, that like D2 only made you connect to that shit >service if you wanted multiplayer, which I never did.

Diablo II Ressurected, that just came out, isn't making me be on-line
as far as I know. But it does connect to Battlenet and I am not sure
why. I haven't tried to disconnect my internet and see what happens
though. I click to play single player off-line and away I go.

There are no on-line players crashing my offline single-player game
and being in it like with Diablo IV.

    Love it!

I used to drive my DM nuts by playing this on my phone when I was

D2R has an offline mode which is the way I am going to play it if I
buy it because I want to use mods. You do need to connect to your
BattleNet account once every 30 days, however. I am ok with this. If
you are not, then just stay away.

And if that's not good enough, there's always "Diablo Immortal".

What... do you guys not have phones?

Yes, a 2012 Flip-Phone, it does not do games, or apps, or, well,
anything but basic phone stuff - it makes and receives phone calls and
    texts.

Do you know if the current versions of flip-phones are like this
(limited)? It is all I need. I would have to look at TracFone though because I am going to stick with them (Verizon bought them, I think).
My old Samsung Galaxy is fantastic, but I don't need apps or games.

Just this week I had to replace my flip phone. Took me two hours going
to four different places to find a replacement flip phone and it seems
to have all the options/screens of a smartphone. Internet, email, yadda
yadda yadda. But at least I was able to use my existing sim card in it,
so hopefully all that extra junk is non-functional. *sigh*

I do have a lantern style actual flashlight for power outages but it
is in a closet. If I lose power at night, I am going to need my
smartphone flashlight to get to the actual flashlight. :-P

I have a smartphone but I only use it for email, phone calls, text and
Google Maps. That's it. I have flashlight app installed for
emergencies but I have yet to use it.

Don't most phones have a flashlight as a built in feature?

My old handheld ham radio has a builtin flashlight and I think I have
one or two lying around somewhere?

Mine is an older Android phone but it may. I never really thought
about it. I just assumed I needed an app for this feature at the time,
so I downloaded one that was free and had good reviews. It worked fine
and I never thought about it again.
