• Hellgate London + Win11

From Xocyll@3:633/10 to All on Sunday, January 18, 2026 19:48:20
I reinstalled this today and have run into a curious thing.

The base game, installed from disc, starts up just fine.

Hellgate Revival, which I played on the old computer under Win7 will not
    run.

It starts up, shows all the developer ads, and when Single Player is
selected I get the spinning rune loading screen, and it never ends and
    never gets to character selection.

Anyone got Revival running under Win11?

Again, the original 2007 game runs just fine (so far at least,) but the
    more recent mod, just won't.

Didn't the original CD-ROM version of "Hellgate" use Starforce as its
DRM? I'm surprised you got it running on Windows 11 at all!

You may wish to ask around the Steam discussion group for Hellgate (or
try that version; I think the retail version they cell has a bunch of
updates and mods pre-applied) so they may have more experience. https://steamcommunity.com/app/939520/discussions/

I haven't played "Hellgate: London" since it's first re-release (after
its short-loved online MMORPG aspects got killed and it was re-issued
    as a single-player game). It's been a game that I've long been
reconsidering giving another playthrough... except for worries I'd
have the same problems as you seem to be having. Oh, and because I
didn't really enjoy the game very much even when it was new. I liked
the story and setting, and appreciated some of the detail of the world-design... but when I wrote my monthly 'review' back in 2008, I
used phrases like "bored me to tears", "tiresome", "grind" and
"unrelenting dullness" to describe the gameplay.

Nonetheless, "Hellgate: London" remains on my Steam wishlist and I'm
pretty sure that one of these days, when the price is low enough, I'll
acquire the game anew and give it another shot. ;-)

The steam version is different than the core game.

If you recall Hellgate got a second commercial lease on life via a
Korean company, as Hellgate Global, which had the new Tokyo area added.
This is the version on steam, single player only, and is not compatible
with any of the mods, revival or 2038.

There is a new version available, called Hellgate 2038, but you have to
have the original core game to install it, the steam version will not
    work.

    It is multiplayer only.

Indeed. At least this was fairly painless compared to some of the
patching we used to have to do.
