Somewhat tempting. I was never the best at scrabble though. I'll wait

When you buy a game through steam, you choose whether it's a purchase
for yourself or someone else. That cannot be changed, so anything you
bought for you, you cannot give away later.

It's really only giveaway codes you can give away, since they can be
    claimed by anyone.

    E.g., https://www.dcode.fr/rot-47-cipher

The advantage of ROT47 is that it is more than an alphabetic cipher
(it utilizes the entire ASCII character base), so if you have
something that uses letters, numbers and punctuation (like, say, a
Steam code), the output will be less recognizable. (As you may have
noticed, using ROT13 on a Steam code leaves the numbers unchanged).

Still, I think it's overkill to use ROT47. It's not really like we
have to super-secure the codes, and --whether ROT13 or ROT47-- if we
regularly had bots harvesting all the codes, it would be trivial to
add decoding features to the script anyway. But, honestly, it does
really matter to me either way. I didn't even know ROT47 existed until yesterday, so learning about it was rather fun.

Or purchased through third-party vendors, like Fanatical (that's what
I did with my spur-of-the-moment Christmas Give-Away). You pay them
money, they give you a key. You then enter that key into Steam (or
wherever). Or you can give it away on Usenet.

Steam never gives keys away directly to customers. Even if you
purchase a game as a gift, you either have to transfer it to another
account, or keep it as an 'item' in your Steam inventory. It can only
    be transferred through Steam.

However, Steam /does/ give keys to publishers... and they can then
sell (or give) those keys to third-parties. Those third-parties can
then give them away or sell them.

Note that it would be perfectly possible for people here to gift games
to other CSIPGA regulars through Steam. It's actually been done a few
times. However, that would require them to either be 'friends' on
Steam, or be in the same usergroup (like https://steamcommunity.com/groups/CSPIGA ). Since it's all in Steam,
    no keys are required.

However, since one of my stated goals is to promote conversation on
Usenet, I prefer to do my give-aways the old-fashioned way. Which
    means keys.
