From Spalls Hurgenson@3:633/10 to All on Saturday, January 03, 2026 12:01:17

The holiday season may be over, but that's no reason not to keep
grabbing games. So let's grab us some games!

[Usual reminder: URLs are for informational purposes only.
Go to https://gaming.amazon.com to actually claim the games
(but a Prime account is required)]

    * Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (via Epic) https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/deus-ex-mankind-divided-4c6370
The most recent "Deus Ex" game wasn't my favorite. It wasn't
a bad game, but it felt small compared to the previous
installments, which were world-spanning (and -changing)
adventures. "Mankind Divided", on the other hand, mostly
limits itself to the city of Prague and is fairly short and
limited in its scope. That small region is well detailed,
however, and the game does have some nice set-pieces, true.
But it feels more like an expansion pack than a whole new
    game.

    * Dreamscaper (via Epic)
    https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/dreamscaper
A top-down action/RPG; think "Diablo" except with weightier
combat and a more surreal setting. Reviews suggest it's a
    solid game but nothing exceptional.

    * Living Legends: The Crystal Tear CE (via Legacy) https://store.steampowered.com/app/1236960/Living_Legends_The_Crystal_Tear_Collectors_Edition/
Would it surprise you to learn this is a hidden-object
adventure game? No, I doubt it would.

Not a bad start to the new year. We'll get more games as the month
progresses, of course. It'll give us something to talk about in a
couple of weeks. See you then! ;-)

From what I heard, it was too much like a generic shooter compared to
    the previous games.

A fine game is still +1 number

I don't know if I'd call it that. It had all the usual Deus Ex
mechanics; RPG stats, stealth, conversation, side-quests, etc. The
gun-play may have been a bit smoother compared to earlier games, but I
don't recall it being any more prominent. While I can't say for
certain that you can do a 100% pacifist run, you can get past most
    encounters without killing anyone.

No, the biggest fault of the game was (IMHO) its scale. The previous
titles were world-trotting adventures; you'd jump between major cities
and locations across the globe, solving a conspiracy that had
world-wide implications. "Mankind Divided" was largely contained
within Prague (there were a few side locations, but you always
returned to Prague as your central hub), and the plot was mostly about
whether or not augmented humans (cyborgs) would be granted the same
rights as non-augmented. An important issue to the setting, for sure,
but far less important than uncovering and stopping a global
    conspiracy.

Like I said, it was a game that felt more like an expansion to the
previous than a true sequel. It wasn't a bad game and, mechanically,
it recaptured pretty much everything the previous games did. It just
felt thematically out of place. It might have done better without
being associated with Deus Ex franchise.

I don't have an amazon, but its nice to talk about games yea :D

Which is really the #1 reason I make these posts: to inspire people to
discuss the games mentioned. Even if it's just to tell me off about
how wrong I was with my brief synopsis of a game. ;-)

If you see something you like probably one of us who has an amazon can
give you a code. If you ever see anything "via Legacy" I'm not claiming
it, so I'd be happy to give away the code. I can't be bothered to make
an account somewhere that has mostly mobile click games ported to PC
    even if they're free.

    Is it a steam code?

    No, it's through https://legacygames.com/

And well, that was assuming they're codes, and not account links like
    Amazon & Epic have.

    Just to be more specific:

Legacy Games is a video-games marketplace, like Steam or Epic or GOG,
except much more limited (mostly casual "hidden object" games). You
need to have a separate account, and they have their own launcher.

Amazon Prime often includes at least one Legacy Game a month in their 'give-away' offers. I usually poke fun at them when that happens,
although --for what they are-- the games themselves are fine. It's
just that they are so simple and frequent that I can't help but mock
    them.

    Amazon & Epic have.

Amazon provides codes to Legacy games.

[I wasn't sure about that; I actually had to go check Amazon
Prime to see because --while I happily announce their games
every month in my "Prime Gaming" posts, I never bother to
actually /claim/ any of the Legacy Games. I also don't post
the codes here, just because I figure nobody would be
interested in them. But maybe I should change that?]

You need to create an account on the Legacy website, then download
their client, and then can use that to redeem the codes.
