• FREE GAME: Trine Classic Collection

Yadda yadda yadda. It's another Epic freebie. You know what this is
all about. Let's jump right to the game.

    * Trine Classic Collection https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/bundles/trine-classic-collection
The "Trine" games are a series (you get all four in this
bundle) of fantasy-themed platform/puzzlers, with the gimmick
that your character is actually three different heroes whom
you switch between. They're fairly well-made games and were
some of the earliest successes of the Indies, proving you
could get good triple-A quality games without having to be
made by a triple-A publisher. That said, the series really
hasn't evolved much, and is starting to feel a bit old hat.
It's fine... I just can't imagine playing all four games
(even I gave up after the third!)

More yadda-yadda about the twenty-four hour time-limit to claim this
one. See you tomorrow for something new!

oh ho, finally a game I could see getting some use out of. if only to
have something for my kids to play. My older kid was interested in Trine
3 for a hot minute (I think I got it on Humble), so maybe they will have
    some fun with it.

I have the original on Steam, which yes was good for what it is, but I
still didn't play very long, didn't finish, and don't plan to ever pick
    up again.

I guess I picked them up for the number? No, that goes against my
personal divine wrath against clutter. It must be for the off chance
either of my kids every want to play them, which is also about null.
    They're mostly into new games.

Although my son said he played Fallout 1 a couple weeks ago. I don't
think he finished it. I'll have to ask him if I remember and he emerges
from his teen cave during hours I'm awake.

I played its first game as a free weekend or something. It was pretty. I
never played its sequels. Will I ever play them? Who knows! ;)

I played the first two to the end, and gave up on the third. I never
played the fourth (although I dutifully added it to the library at
some point). There's a fifth game out but even I couldn't be arsed
    with it.

It's not that they're bad games. They are --as you mentioned-- quite
pretty; they've a lot of soft colorful lighting that makes the games
very appealing to look at. The gameplay is okay; it never fully
engaged me, but it wasn't too difficult and it didn't really annoy me
either. It reminded me a lot of the "Lost Vikings" games, which also
had you switch between three characters with different abilities to
get past various puzzles. But there was a lack of variety to the
encounters, and even with the first game I was getting bored by the
    end.

The second and third games were just 'more of the same'. They didn't
really expand on the concept; that was its biggest problem. It made
all the games interchangable, sort of like the Traveller's Tale LEGO
games (e.g., LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Batman, LEGO Godzilla, etc.) or
    Ubisoft's open-world titles. Once you've played one, there's very
little reason to go play the next.

The first time; sure, it's fun enough. It doesn't really matter which
game, but you'll have a good time. It's not great, but passable.

But the idea that the series was made it into a trilogy (or now, a
    quintology?) It baffles me.

Hmm, I think that was in fact the whole inspiration of the games.
