The AI isn't that bad; it's more or less what was common to racing
games in the late 90s and 2000s, using constant rubber-banding to
maintain the challenge. The game is in no way a sim, and so its AI
exists mostly to feed the adrenalin high of zipping around the tracks
at 200mph with an opponent always nipping at your heels. But at the
same time, it also relents if you start lagging behind. It's not an
/honest/ race... but it is a fun one. The antics of the AIR are not
really a reason to avoid the game... but it is something people should
be aware of.
