After being with Earthlink for 27 years, I was notified that they
finally discontinued their free access to the usenet newsgroups as part
of their subscription fee.
So, based on the suggestions I saw here, I signed up for a free text-
only account on eternal-september.org.ÿ (Although they do accept
donations).
So, if anyone here is in the same position as was I, it's something to consider trying.
I have been disappointed by the lack of messages here lately from our wonderful collection of Apple II stalwards, but even on the 'cool kids' Apple II sites these days (and the myriad of sub-sites / groups) there
are a lot of things that don't really appeal to me. YMMV, of course.

BUT I'm not
on my personal laptop as much as I used to be. I'm usually on my work laptop and phone so my Usenet posting has been sproadic.
Similar to you, I dropped into the NBA group and there's still a few
people around. comp.sys.apple2 seems a little dead though. Lots of
people have migrated to a FB Apple II group from what I see

I'm in similar boat. I was using Google Groups to access mainly one
group (alt GS Warriors - NBA group). When Google killed Usenet access,
I signed up for Eternal September. It's been working fine. BUT I'm not
on my personal laptop as much as I used to be. I'm usually on my work laptop and phone so my Usenet posting has been sproadic.

I'd like to point out that there are great News apps for mobile phones. I'm writing these lines on my iPhone.

Again, I'd prefer everything be on comp.sys.apple2, but then again, I'm a dinosaur. And we know what happened to them.

I've lurked here for eons.
When Google dropped news groups I tried a bunch of alternatives. I landed on jlaforums.com which has a ton of the newsgroups available. It does sometimes screw up links posted in messages.
This post is a test to see if it works on my phone. It didn't work the other day.
I peek at FB every now and then but I find the long unorganized stream difficult to follow. Forget about finding old posts.
I now have a shortcut setup on my phone to open a new group of websites that includes ][ related sites including fritter, a2central, atariage forums, callapple, jlaforums, and yes top of FB group. Retroroundup is another nice way to catch a lot of content.
What other sites do you frequent for new II?
I do miss seeing posts about new ideas and questions on here. It's the last vestige of BBS life and you can find answers to so many things. I see familiar names on 6502.org, fritter forums and atariage.
I may venture to slack one of these days.
