• Sine Nomine Software at the London Show

From Matthew Phillips@3:633/10 to All on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 21:45:03
Sine Nomine Software will be attending the London Show on Saturday, with several new software releases. These centre around support for Unicode, allowing the use of a much wider variety of character beyond those common
    in Western Europe.

Nominatim, the location look-up software which lies behind the place name gazetteer in the AtoB route planner, Recce local information application
and the location fields in the Impact database, has been enhanced so that
you can search for place names in their original script.

RiscOSM now allows Unicode characters to appear in almost all text fields
in the software. This means that the correct accents are retained in any captions for photos, or information pulled from the internet via Recce.

To access the new facilities you will need to install new map data, which
we are in the course of preparing for download soon after the show.

We think that ImpEmail becomes the first RISC OS email editing software to support composing messages in full Unicode. ImpEmail's main talent is mail-merged emails, with the merged data coming from either CSV files or Impulse-compatible databases like Impact and Powerbase. Mail-merge from
Impact and Powerbase is still stuck in the 8-bit alphabet era, but now ImpEmail can accept both 8-bit and full UTF-8 Unicode CSV files.

Impact and RiscOSM also gain the ability to handle UTF-8 CSV files.
Impact will convert the values to your local system alphabet, but RiscOSM
can import and handle the data in its original script.

Alongside these major improvements there is a range of smaller
enhancements and bug fixes. Do come along to the stand to find out more,
    or attend the theatre talk.
