• Note : Fedora 43 - 'dnfdragora' GUI Stops Working After Latest Updates

From c186282@3:633/10 to All on Friday, March 06, 2026 00:07:30
The app is the nearest thing to 'synaptic' - and thus
extremely useful for seeing what software IS out there.

Command line 'dnf' works ... but too often delivers a
huge number of results you can't sort out.

This issue HAS been multiply reported on Fedora sites.

Symptom ... starting the GUI starts refreshing the
cache ... but it only gets to 33% or 66% almost
    always and then hangs entirely.

Running it as 'dnfdragors --ncurses' brings up a
crude (compared to OpenSUSE) text interface and
often (not always) it WILL complete loading the
cache. Alas it's SO crappy it's almost impossible
    to search/install stuff.

"Yast/yast2" in OpenSUSE was GREAT. 'Synapic' is
GREAT. 'Octopi' and related in the Arch universe
are "fair". Search, research, see dependencies,
know what of 2000+ packages DO exist ... that's
    just invaluable these days.

Anyway, given multiple complaints of the same
malfunction I hope Fedora will FIX it pretty
soon. For now I can, barely, get by with 'dnf'.
Alas 'yumex' is no longer in the repos ... though
you may be able to get it from an obscure repo,
dunno if modern dependencies will doom it.

Final bitch ... 'vncserver' produces a message
saying it is deprecated and will soon be removed
from the upstream. What's the matter - did it
work TOO smooth and easy ??? Probably some
    horrible 'solution' in mind .....

BTW, if installing TigerVNC, edit .vnc/xstartup,
leave all as-is, BUT add "startxfce4 &" at
the bottom. Then "everything" works and looks
nice. Note VNC apps don't necessarily make
everything work, but normally 'good enough'.
Auth pop-ups seem to be an issue, also
multi-select in GUI file manager apps.
