openSUSE has ffmepg in several versions, from 4 to 8. At least if you
use the mature Leap 15.6

No problemo. I ran 13.2 way beyond its EOL. You do get to the point where stuff stops working and then it's time to move on. In my case I moved on
to Fedora to see what it was about.
