theme that makes it look like Windows 10/11.

It's really is a unique experience. Not saying I'd run it, but if you know KDE then this
isn't too hard to work around.

the GUI. Unlike Windows, where the GUI is inextricably bound into the

While I am less anti-Win than many linux folks, as I still use Win7 and
Win apps 'regularly' but probably only 1% of the time, and I also like
to sample numerous distro/s, it is somewhat of a turn-off for me for a
distro to choose as its forte' to look like Win.

However, I'm sure that my propensity to put 'any' linux .iso on my
Ventoy SSD will probably overcome my adversity to a linux trying to look
Win and I'll give it a shot.

Another thing newcomers to Linux learn is that you can?t always just take, sometimes you have to give back.

These days, probably most of the linux users don't code at all, so their support would have to be in the form of such as documentation or maybe webforum (or usenet) support.

My only thought was that the theme put on top of KDE, and maybe some mods to apps, made
the system look and feel rather close to Windows. Amazingly close IMHO.

I could care less if anyone wants to jump ship from Windows, or if they understand what's
under the hood etc. It's just fun to look at.

One of the things I like about KDE is how powerful its 'interface' is in
terms of relating to the user.

I also like that historically KDE has been able to be about as light as
XFCE, even tho' it often isn't at all.

Contrast KDE (old and modern) w/ Gnome (old and modern) and I find
modern gnome to be a big disappointment; my least favorite DE.

KDE would probably be my favorite DE if the Mint gang hadn't done such a
great job when they forked Cinnamon off Gnome.

The DVD is 6.1GB, which means it has SNAPs on it.

It's unfortunate, but what is under the hood, *does* matter.

Enshittification is everywhere, and we have to do what
we can to keep the good parts, and dispose of the dreck.

That also happens to be the reason we are discussing
this in the Mint group. This is the home of the "Not SNAP"
movement.

Be more specific.

Java used to work, you could kinda stumble around
the version dungeon and snag something you could make
work, but what exactly would Java 24 work with today ?

Probably only LibreOffice (and as an option, not a hard requirement).

I don't think I've run a Java here for anything, since
about version 8 or so. And I'm just guessing here, as it's
been too many years to remember the versioning details.

I fondly remember on one occasion, installing Java and
doing a reboot. And as the system came up, (something) started
executing on the machine and scared the shit out of me.
This was a program I'd installed two years earlier, which
had a Java dependency, and I'd never installed Java for it.
And the installer wakes up immediately and tries to finish
the install. That's a reminder of what Java is good for.

I'm playing with it now ... it's nice but it's based on an obsolete OS ("noble") and some of the repos are archives. That could be a problem depending upon what someone wants to install.
