From Axel@3:633/10 to All on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 15:33:38

I installed it on one of my PC's to try it out. It's more 'windows like'
than LM, but I suspect it doesn't have as much support.

From what I understand, it is specifically designed to make Windows
    users feel at home.

Support for an open-source project comes from those who care enough
    about it to contribute back.

It comes with touch screen and on-screen keyboard already installed, which
    LM doesn't.

LM 22.3 has touch screen support. Use it everyday!

The Core version (free) is 3.5GB promised in the download,
so it cannot be an exact copy of Ubuntu (somewhere around
a 6GB download due to SNAPs). Zorin has that much going for it.

But you would really want to remove the quiet and splash from
GRUB and watch the text-based start for things you like or
don't like. The live media is a bit slow because it hashes (checksums) everything. I gave it 12GB of RAM in the VM and cut it down
to two cores, in an attempt to "perk it up". It wasn't perky
on a normal diet of RAM. Hard to say exactly what is going on there.

[Picture] Does not sin too much...

I wish there was a bench that could quantify "perky" :-)

I have a physical install around here... somewhere. the usual
    organization of materials problem.

The listing on the right of the Distrowatch page, is sorted
by web hit rate. If you search for Zorin in the upper left box,
then the statistic in the right column would be bumped by one.
It doesn't mean a distro is good, it means "people have temporarily
developed an interest in it". That is different than the
ratings page where people rate a distro as in 8/10.

The right hand column has been "gamed" by people with
access to Botnets. If you see a distro suddenly shoot up
in the rating, humans didn't do that. Humans provided the
    money, bots did the work.

    *******

    "Oct 2, 2019 ... Zorin OS co-founder Artyom Zorin <=== somebodies name
goes way beyond just talking about an awesome Linux
    distribution."

The distro seems to be associated with Ireland. The
word/name may be traceable to a Slavic language.
    It's not a Bond villain particularly :-)

Will it make Windows users happy ? Not with that menu. The
menu contents seem a bit spartan on the free version. Windows
users didn't like using a Back button in Windows 8, and
they're not going to like that style of menu and having
to click Back either. Menus which maintain visual context
as you drill down ("I am in the Utilities menu, but I have
other options I see I can use if the Utilities do not pan out"),
that's part of a good menu scheme. Leaving things
visible, is not "blinding" people as to what the
level above looks like. You maintain navigation context
    that way.
