Not important I guess, but I found this interesting.
I decided to install acrobat reader and downloaded the installation file >from their website. Did the install and once finished I went to the >downloads directory to remove the install file and it was gone.
I guess the installation now removes the files there too.

That was likely a web installer, not a standalone/offline installer.

That was likely a web installer, not a standalone/offline installer.
I know that, but I've still not seen anything else delete that file.

It has been a long time since I installed Adobe Reader, but I recall the
web installer file disappeared after the installation completed. That's
why in my Download folder where I store downloads, I had both a URL
shortcut to the download page, and the web installer there, but would
copy the web installer file somewhere else when I did an install, or I
made a copy, and ran the copy, so the original would get left behind.
Maybe they figure after installation thereafter you'd rely on the auto-updater in the program to get newer versions.
When the uni installer file is run, it grabs the balance of files for
installation from Adobe's web site, copies the required installation
files to another location for installation, once installation is complete >the original uni installer file is removed/deleted.
Other possibilities, but I suspect a quite rare occurence...AV/AM
software sees the web installer as an intrusion and deletes(it)
