• Adobe reader installation file

From sticks@3:633/10 to All on Thursday, January 29, 2026 12:13:55
Not important I guess, but I found this interesting.
I decided to install acrobat reader and downloaded the installation file
from their website. Did the install and once finished I went to the
downloads directory to remove the install file and it was gone. I guess
the installation now removes the files there too. I have not seen this behavior before.

    Acrobat installer behaves this way.

I guess the installation now removes the files there too.

    It removes only itself.

That was likely a web installer, not a standalone/offline installer.

I know that, but I've still not seen anything else delete that file.
    Have you?

It has been a long time since I installed Adobe Reader, but I recall the
web installer file disappeared after the installation completed. That's
why in my Download folder where I store downloads, I had both a URL
shortcut to the download page, and the web installer there, but would
copy the web installer file somewhere else when I did an install, or I
made a copy, and ran the copy, so the original would get left behind.

Maybe they figure after installation thereafter you'd rely on the
auto-updater in the program to get newer versions.

    Or
When the uni installer file is run, it grabs the balance of files for installation from Adobe's web site, copies the required installation
files to another location for installation, once installation is complete
the original uni installer file is removed/deleted.

Other possibilities, but I suspect a quite rare occurence...AV/AM
software sees the web installer as an intrusion and deletes(it)

Once Adobe is installed, and depending upon the version installed, one
might look for the setup.exe file in Windows
    - e.g. of one possible location
    <C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Setup\{AC76BA86-7AD7-FFFF-7B44-AE1401753200}>
or similar {16 hex digit grouping 4-2-2-2-8} folder.

If it was the case, the file should have been deleted after download,
or at least at execution time.
