Hi Guys,
As you can not believe most of anything on YouTube,
some one on youtube is claiming the Windows 12 will
be a "subscription" service.
Can anyone confirm or deny?

Be careful about "Windows 12" naming. I've seen jokers at Youtube
professing to show off Windows 12, but they are just showing their
depiction of what Windows 12 /might/ be like.
I recall reading some article(s) where a spokesman, or someone inside Microsoft, noted the subscription model for Windows 12. But, again, it might've been just conjecture. For now without an official announcement
from Microsoft, it is just a rumor. It is possible the Home edition
remains fixed price, but their corporate clients (their biggest market
share) may get charge a subscription to, for example, cover the higher
cost of more support expected by corporate clients.
https://www.zdnet.com/article/i-think-i-know-whats-coming-in-windows-12-and-youre-not-going-to-like-it/
(Again, predictions, not official announcements.)
The prediction is the Home edition will remain at a fixed cost,
essentially zero if it is bundled in the price of a pre-built computer.
The Pro edition may incur a monthly subscription fee, but the author's prediction of $10 to $20 per month. With an MS 365 subscription, it
takes 3 years to surpass the cost of the standalone Office price.
Afterward Microsoft makes more on the subscription than if you bought. Subscriptions for Windows 12 Pro might be cheaper than outright
purchase, but the cost would eventually be higher after a couple years
of paying the subscription. The author notes enterprise admin paying
for MS 365 have endured the subscription model already.
Looks like for the end-user that either they get Windows 12 Home bundled
in a pre-built computer, or they buy Windows 12 at a one-time cost.
Same model as now. Pro might to subscriptions, or the Pro edition fades
away and replaced by MS 365 which includes Windows 12, and MS 365
packages have been subscriptionware for a long time.

Congrats! I switched from MSO (I think it was only Word/Works for
Windows back then) to OpenOffice, later LibreOffice decades ago, never
regretted it. Switching to Linux later was even easier because LO of
course is the same in Win/Lin.
-jw-
And if you are using the holy mother of all Linux killers,
you can not switch from Windows to Linux: QuickBooks.
Is Quickbooks owned by Microsoft?
From my experience, my customer do not care and mostly don't
even know what OS they are using. They ONLY CARE if the apps
they have learned will run on it. QuickBooks and Adobe kill
Linux.
Make sure you have what programs you need to run on Linux before
switching. If you do, you'll never go back.

the payoff is less than a year vs the subscription.
Some time ago I purchased a new computer for the church. I received it
on Thursday and had to have it operational by Monday. I tried for over a day first to transfer the standalone MS office (purchase about 2 years
ago) from the old computer and was getting no where and time was running out. Then, I tried to use the church subscription to MS 365. That
failed miserably.
In desperation I downloaded LibreOffice which I had heard about but never use, thinking a working spreadsheet and word processor were better than none.
That was back in April. While I eventually got MS Office transferred to
the new computer. But I am still using LibreOffice for the work I have
to do for the church.
First it is free. It takes a couple of minute to update unlike MS Office which takes 5 minutes to see if it needs updating and then another 5 to
10 minus for the update to install.
I find it can do any thing that I could do in MS Office. In my use, all files are completely compatible in the MS format.
The user interface is significantly simpler, No more looking up a
function and being give a button to the function but never telling where
it is located in the labyrinth ribbon menu.
For simple editing and formatting it is the same as MS Office. For
complex formatting I still rely on WordPerfect with the its format codes.
I have no plan of ever going back to MS Office 365
If shared(use and cost across 1 owner + 5 other persons over 5 yrs$130 each - $650 total cost, 6 persons.)

You have just demonstrated why most folks will stick with
Windows. It does not matter how intrusive, buggy, or
difficult Windows is become, if the applications you have
invested so much time in learning are not ported to Linux,
you will stick with Windows. And the substitute programs
available in Linux just do not cut it, as you demonstrated
with Pam.
I do not see any significant migration out of Windows
until software vendors cross platform their Windows
programs. And with out a significant Linux user
base, that won't happen any time soon.
If the wine that comes with bottles does not work
with Forte, try wine's other builds:
https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/
You have your choice of
wine-devel
wine-stable
wine-staging
I am currently using
wine-devel-10.19-1.1.x86_64
They are currently on to v11, but I have been to
chicken to check it out.
Wine at best is still alpha stage code. It is the downfall
of open source. Give the code away for free and charge for
the maintenance. Is you are not a large corporation or
a very wealthy person, you can not afford to hire them
and bugs and request get ignored.
