    I used TapCIS:

"CompuServe's automated program to grab messages was called
TapCIS. It allowed users to manage their email accounts and
forum memberships more efficiently by enabling offline work and
automating the process of sending and receiving messages."

I used CompuServe for years. I still remember the ID number and
password. I'm not sure if they're still around or not.

I tried to limited dialup to about 3 times a week at most.
Still.. my monthly bill seemed large. I don't remember my
    total average online time.

Mine was a lot...but that was back under dial-up internet, as
it were. I used a Radio Shack MC-10 micro color computer, with
a 300 baud modem, and a TV set for a monitor. I downloaded quite
    a few pieces of software...including 2 for the TRS-80 Model 100
laptop, for "the world's smallest BBS", and I ran that from
    December 1990 through April 1992.

The two forums I remember being in were AVSIG (Aviation Special
Interest Group), and one on Trains, where the moderator noted
    "Everything on a flanged wheel".

I was 75300,1375@compuserve.com, don't know why I still remember that.

No telling how much money I spent on that. :P
