track brake would be the obvious candidate. Given the DLR has a lot of
technical standards in common with German tram-derived systems, tram
style track brakes are probably not out of the question.
They shouldn't need them as all the previous DLR stocks have performed without
any issues. I doubt its a hardware - ie wheel to rail - issue, far more likely
to be dodgy brake controller software.
A slightly different re-entry question... Years ago when DLR first opened, the
SO & I rode to the last station and stayed on the train. An agent approached and
informed us that this was the end of the line. We said we knew, we wanted to ride back to Canary Wharf. Agent shrugged and walked away. Always wondered if we
were supposed to gate out and reenter.

You can get a modern version , thin steel plates are laid under the track which nowadays is non magnetic nickel silver. Modern magnets that are
strong enough to be ?in range? of the plates are attached to the Locos.

It's now about locos? Concrete ballast was/is used.
