An old friend and one time colleague has gone, apparently claimed by
cancer, in a hospice in Salisbury a few months ago. He retired to
Wiltshire after living for his whole life in Southgate near Oakwood
    underground station.

Rather sad, I knew him at STC/STL when I worked there for a short time
in the late 80s. He was a very knowledgeable and generous chap who
helped me with fixing a damaged packet TNC and was well known for
sorting out various BBC B software problems.

Really sorry to hear that. I think we are all of an age here where this
is going to be the defacto from now on. Last week I was comforting a
mate who had lost his best friend for 60 years...

Yes I remember ADSB, probably from here and some direct correspondence.
    A sad loss.

Yes. I am probably one of the younger ones in this group (mid-forties) but
I have noticeably been hearing about old contacts and acquaintances dying
more frequently over the last few years - I expect that by the time I'm of
a similar vinatge to many of you (if I ever get that far) then it will
become a very common thing to hear.

What is particularly sad is that Andrew had no children, and the only
thing left of him I can find is his rather sparse website at
    https://adsb.co.uk

x-posted to free.digital-archiving, feel free to excise in replies if you wish.

That site will soon enough disappear - maybe months, maybe a few years,
but it won't be hosted forever now that Andrew is gone. It is backed-up
plenty in the Wayback Machine, but perhaps one thing more you could do to secure him a little permanence on the web is gather together any material
you have relating to him, including perhaps a downloaded/zipped copy of
that site as it currently is, digitise any hardcopy material, and upload
    it all to archive.org.

I did this for a guy who, while tracking down local music to archive a few years ago, I learned had recently died - Nigel Seamer was his name and he
was a nice guy, and he helped a few of my friends out in the early 2000s
with recording studio time and getting their music released locally, all
out of his own pocket, with no expectation whatsoever of seeing any
return. He did it for the love of it.

I was sad to hear of his death, and I eventually ended up speaking with
his family - visited his mother and father and we chatted about Nigel and
they had barely any idea of the good turns that he did a lot of people
back in the fleeting period I knew him. They were very touched to hear
    about it.

They gave me a folder of his that had Medway music stuff in it and it was
a really nice little trove. A bunch of it was to do with his own record
label and, along with other items sourced from elsewhere, I curated a
memorial item on archive.org for him:

    <https://archive.org/details/tin-man-records-ephemera-nigel-seamer-medway>

It's about the only evidence in existence of the passion he had and the kindness he shared with young musicians, and I was quite proud to put it
online in this format, for posterity.

It might be something like this could be an idea for you for Andrew? In
terms of permanence on the web, archive.org is about the closest there'll
ever be, so might be worth a thought.

    Anyway, again, condolences.
