• LSI Adaptor SAS2 200 Falcon

From Jeff Gaines@3:633/10 to All on Saturday, April 11, 2026 09:20:50

Windows Device Manager describes this as:

    LSI Adaptor SAS2 200 Falcon

    Amazon calls it:

    9207-8i KIT 8-Port 6Gbps SATA+SAS PCI-E 3.0 HBA Kit

    See:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00AENN2LW?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1

It's a PCIe 8 lane device that you can hang up to 8 drives off using a
    Mini SAS to SATA cable.

I have one in my backup PC and for two mights running the backup has
failed with an error "Device Not Found".

I stopped using it before because it is inconsistent in the order it
allocates drives although the drive letters don't change.

As far as I can see it doesn't have an option to sleep when it gets tired.

Anybody aware of any problems with this kit? I deliberately went for LSI because from the reviews I found it was highly recommended.

Not that specific card, but over the years LSI HBAs that have come in Dell >and Fujitsu servers have been fine.

    Thanks Andy :-)

I have a similar one from a Bargain Hardware Dell server. it's bigger with
a bigger heat sink perhaps I should try it it. The one I have seems to be susceptible to heat issues.

I remember I had to blow a new BIOS on to the Dell version so it would
work with JBOD. The most notable features of the Dell were it weighed 3
tons when populated with 8 x spinning disks and sounded like Concorde when
    it started up!

LSI SAS 9210-8i is only œ21 on E bay and more reliable.
Works with windows 10 without problem.
You can see and manage it over network using MegaRAID storage software.
I got one set up and Storage server using old AMD FZ-4100 QuadCore PC
with 8Gb RAM,that was laying around.
Currently fitted with 4 x 8TB SAS Hard drives set as RAID 10 plus
connectors for another 4 Drives if I need.
Total cost probably œ100, runs 24Hr a day and very reliable.

    Many thanks Raj :-)

That is the model I have except I bought it new for a bit more than that :-(

I have had problems with it in a couple of different machines, perhaps
it's defective but too late to do anything. Lots of people say you have
to add a fan next to it to prevent overheating...

The adaptec RAID card is the same with regards to overheating, it just
    locks up solid when overheated.

Adaptec offer a add on card that sits in the next PCI slot adjacent to
the card and has a fan and ducting on said add on card.

I solved it my fitting a CPU style fan to the RAID card's main heatsink
and powered it via a molex connector from the PC PSU.

    No more problems since then.
