• CD and DVD blanks - anyone use them anymore?

From David@3:633/10 to All on Sunday, March 29, 2026 17:16:18
There was a time when I used CDs and DVDs for storing music, and storing software such as Linux installs.

I don't think I have burned one for ages.

Most modern devices, especially laptops, don't even have a DVD drive.

I have loads in the cupboard.

    Does anyone still use them?

I have a CD drive in both of my (10+ years old) vehicles but haven't used
them to play music for a long time.

    Cheers

Last time I wanted to read an optical disk I had to borrow a reader. I
still have a stack of blanks but I doubt I?ll ever use any of them.

I recently fed a heap of DVD RAM discs through a DVD reader and put them
in my backup system. Fabulous format that went the way of Betamax sadly.

I have about 7 CD-R discs taking space on my desktop, but the PC I'm
using hasn't got a CD/DVD-burner. I have an older PC running on Windows
7 that has a burner, but when I use it it's to rip music CDs, not to
    write.

I've been meaning to take out the burner and put it in the newer PC, but
I just can not be bothered.

My car has a 10-CD stacker. I have 3 cartridges loaded with CDs which I
play all the time. I even burn my own 'mixtapes' to CD for variety.
