Is there an active, crowded Usenet newsgroup that
    talks about rechargeables batteries?

Eternal-September reconfigured itself. Now I can
    see:

    sci.chem.electrochem.battery

Did you check the group to see if there is any traffic ?

Battery research is multi-disciplinary, and more than
one kind of scientist works on aspects of it. It depends
on what aspect of battery performance is broken, as
to what kind of scientist is in demand. Battery performance
is measured with a spider diagram.

    sci.chem.electrochem.battery does indeed look
    like a ghost town.

And why isn't it named or labelled
    "sci.chem.physicalchem.battery"? :)

    What is "electro-chemisty"??

Batteries are more like a physical
    chemistry problem.
