I just started playing Timberborn, a sim, and it is *so* fun.

After an apocalypse destroys humanity, beavers begin creating their own civilization. Wood and water are both vitally important.

There's no combat. The enemies are environmental -- droughts, tides of contaminated water, stuff like that. You might think that would make for
a dull game, but it's anything but.

I recommend it to anyone who likes sims.

I really enjoy it too. It's not exactly easy, but it's challenging in a relaxing way. There's also something really satisfying about figuring
out a smart way to manage your water through droughts. I played before badwater came in, so I'm still getting the hang of that, but it feels
    like it fits in.

There was a time before badwater? Were the challenges just droughts?

I didn't play the early release. I just bought the first release. I hear
the early release also didn't have automation. I haven't used automation
yet, and when I finally unleash that, it'll probably change to a new
    kind of game.

I haven't modded yet, but I glanced at the mod list. I was surprised to
see so few factions. Maybe I'll make a few factions of my own as I go
    along.

Yeah, I bought it back when it was first in early access. There was just something about the concept of beavers making their own little
civilization that really appealed to me. The only real threats to water
were droughts that eventually capped out at (I think) 9 days, so you can imagine how it kind of got boring after a while. Adding badwater was a
really cool addition to keep players involved.

I haven't played since 1.0 and don't know about automation. It sounds
like I need to put some more hours in!

The badwater definitely adds something. It still provides power to waterwheels, but it makes the beavers sick with too much exposure.
Fairtails can get an antidote from an alchemist, but Ironteeth have to
go into a powered decontamination pod.

I prefer the Fairtails. I tried a game with the Ironteeth, and it felt a little too industrial. I like the hippie beavers.
