• Using Jester Chess by St‚phane N'Guyen in 2026 : it's possible !

Jester Chess is a tiny chess engine developed by St?phane N'Guyen at
the very beginning of the 21st century.

It was developed in Java and was very small (less than 150KB), running
    in a simple web browser.

Jester Chess offered several levels and playing styles, including a
"clownish" style that occasionally introduced an unexpected and clumsy
move, sometimes allowing a beginner or intermediate player to win. You
never felt like you were playing against a robot.

Today, browsers are much more secure than before, and they no longer
    allow Java to run.
The challenge, therefore, is to find a solution to run Jester Chess.
After trying many solutions, I found one that works.

Okay, it's a bit resource-intensive, but it has the advantage of being
    quite simple to implement :
You need to run Jester on an older version of Linux Mint with a browser compatible with the necessary Java plugins. Linux Mint version 2
("Barbara") allows this "out of the box".
With a little searching, you can easily find this version of Linux Mint
    online.
    Here, for example: https://thingsthemselves.com/linux-mint-archives/
For Jester, I offer my ISO archive: https://dodinbastie.ynh.fr/jirafeau/f.php?h=1QwMBqz0&d=1

Ideally, you should run Linux Mint in a virtual machine like
VirtualBox. This older version of Linux Mint only requires 256MB of
RAM. And it works on Windows, Linux, and macOS !

This is a fun computer revival project to enjoy this charming little
    chess game.

    Have fun !
