A social media famous dog was allegedly served up as a dish in a Chinese re staurant after being kidnapped from a farm and slaughtered.

Chinese travel influencer Guo and his eight-year-old Border Collie, Chutou,
were internet stars and together they amassed more than 1.5 million follow
ers on Douyin, the country?s version of TikTok.

The canine accompanied his owner for years on journeys across China, from c amping trips on snowy mountains to deserts, often guarding him outside his tent at night.

According to South China Morning Post (SCMP), which first published the sto
ry, Guo recently left Chutou at home with his parents, to embark on a solo road trip in Georgia.

But the dog went missing on May 11, the outlet claimed, with surveillance f ootage allegedly showing two strangers taking him away on an electric bike.

On May 26, Guo - who had returned to China to search for the dog - located
the man accused of stealing Chutou, and purportedly offered him 10,000 yuan
    (œ1,100) for the animal?s return.

The man said he mistook Chutou for a stray, SCMP claimed, but Guo refused t
he explanation - highlighting that the dog had been wearing a collar and GP
    S tracker.

Guo was later told that Chutou had been sold to a restaurant serving dog me
at for 180 yuan (œ20), and that his loving pet had been eaten, accordi
    ng to the outlet.

'The dog is dead, so stop making a fuss. I did not break the law,' the man
who allegedly sold the dog said, according to SCMP.

Guo apparently confronted the restaurant worker who slaughtered Chutou, hop
ing to recover his remains or fur.

'The hair was thrown in the rubbish long ago,' the butcher allegedly replie
    d.

Guo first bought Chutou in 2018 from a street vendor, paying over 2,000 yua
n (œ221) when the puppy was just three months old.

The dog became known for his intelligence, energy and gentle temperament ac ross videos he appeared in on social media.

A devastated Guo purportedly reported the incident to the police and submit
ted evidence of Chutou?s market value, hoping the case would lead t
    o criminal charges.

Police in Ningling County in Henan province have opened an investigation, a ccording to the outlet HK01.

The case sparked widespread outrage online, renewing debate over China?
    ??s dog meat trade.

One social media user wrote: 'I cried while watching Chutou?s old v

The voyagers to Hawaii over 1000 years ago brought chickens, pigs, and dogs, with

America has its own sacred cows. Dogs and cats, maybe octopussys. Some folks have pigs as pets although they probably still indulge in a little bacon for breakfast. I find chickens to be cute and amusing but I still like a piece of fried chicken occasionally. One day, we'll all be food - more or less. Speaking of cute, here's old Bessie - a most excellent cow that's gone to meet her maker.

It was a long way from the Land of Enchantment, but the change of venue
didn?t help Bertola beat the lawsuit brought by his neighbor, Sadie
Emerson, whose Vietnamese pot-bellied pig, Tiny Boo, he fatally shot
when it wandered onto his property March 14.

Yesterday, in the courtroom studio of ?The People?s Court
? on the eighth floor of 401 Fifth Avenue, before an audience of 60
spectators, Bertola testified that he mistook the year-old, 50-pound anima
l for a dangerous type of wild boar called a javelina that roams the mounta
ins and ranchlands around his five-acre spread near Deming, N.M.

When the pig, which had somehow escaped from an electrified pen in Emerson
?s backyard, came within 50 feet of Bertola?s house, he say
s he feared the animal would attack his two small daughters. He ran into hi
s house to grab a rifle and shot the pig three times from close range.

He later cut off its head, skinned it, and invited neighbors to come over a
nd take a look. When Emerson drove up with her three-year-old son, all that
was left of Tiny Boo was a pile of raw meat. She says Bertola even offered
    her some.

Bertola told Judge Sheindlin he skinned Tiny Boo because he wanted to show
his neighbors how big the animal was that he killed. The judge didn?
?t buy it. ?When the plaintiff came upon the scene and saw the me
at ? not even her pet, but saw the meat that used to be her pet!
? and the head of her animal separated, it is then, sir, that you s
tarted making up all of these excuses,? the judge scolded. ?
?You don?t show the size of an animal by reducing its size ?
    ? that doesn?t make sense!?

Judge Sheindlin awarded the plaintiff $75 for the cost of the pig and then tacked on $2,500 in punitive damages (to be paid by the show, not the defen dant).

Afterwards, in an interview in the hallway with ?The People?
    ?s Court?s?
Curt Chaplin, Emerson said she hoped the verdict would ?teach peopl
    e to
    respect animals.?

If they wish to eat dog, they can buy the meat of dogs raised for
    the purpose of being food.
And there are dogs raised for just that purpose in China.
Certainly in Beijing. We saw it in the markets. We did not partake of
    any dog meat.

    God Bless you.
