There have been many apocalyptic predictions throughout human history,
with one of the oldest known examples stretching back almost 4,800
years. A writer lamented what they saw as declining morals among young
people, interpreting it as a sign of society's imminent downfall.

The majority of these dire warnings have come from religious leaders,
including Jewish commander Simon bar Giora who forecast the world's
end around 70AD, or South African minister Joshua Mhlakela who set the
date for last October. Most of these prophecies, however, have no
basis in science.

But one forecast made roughly 65 years ago has gained some credibility
among scientists. In November 1960, the scholarly journal Science
featured research from three University of Illinois academics who
cautioned about a possible doomsday scenario on Friday, November 13,
2026. It comes after Professor Stephen Hawking also predicted the date
of the apocalypse before his death.

Heinz von Foerster, Patricia M. Mora, and Lawrence W. Amiot reached
their disturbing conclusion about November 2026 after examining
patterns in Western civilization throughout the preceding hundred
years. Their catastrophic scenario didn't feature nuclear war, meteor
strikes or massive volcanic events, but rather a danger far more
difficult to prevent: overpopulation.

They determined that improvements in healthcare were driving an
explosive increase in worldwide population figures. Foerster, Mora and
Amiot forecast that the rising number of inhabitants on the planet
would "tend towards infinity" at some stage this year ? resulting in a
scenario where food production simply cannot meet consumption needs.

In 1960, the world's population stood at roughly three billion, but as
we enter 2026, that figure has skyrocketed to more than eight billion,
showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Experts predict that
the turning point, when global population numbers start declining,
won't arrive until around 2080.

Got news for you. The shake machines aren't broken. They're just a
PITA to take apart and clean which is why so often employees will tell
you they're broken. I heard that from a McDonald's employee.
