In 2021, when this happened, Del Rio, Texas (population 36,000), had 28,000 illegals flood their town in less than two weeks. None of those open borders 'progressives' thought *that* was an emergency.

Now, the Boston Globe has crowned Martha's Vineyard residents
"Bostonians of the Year" for their handling of the sudden arrivals,
even though the residents were unwilling hosts.
"At some point in time, they have to move from here to somewhere
else, right?" resident Lisa Belcastro said at the time.
No, not 'right', Lisa. They could stay in your neighborhoods permanently the same way you expect them to stay in ours. And if you don't have any place to put them, they can just throw up a tent and live on the sidewalks, which, I'm told by my 'progressive' politicians here in L.A., is a fundamental right.
"We don't have the services to take care of 50 immigrants. And we
certainly don't have housing-- we're in a housing crisis as we
are on this island."
And how does this not describe Texas border towns, too? Are you under the impression, Lisa, that McAllen, Brownsville, and El Paso had more than enough resources to take care of the hundreds of thousands of illegals that were flooding their communities? Do you think they have housing for them all? And even if they did, why should the tax payer of Texas be required to foot the bill for it?
You were perfectly cool with Biden's open border policies when it was only those rural hicks in Texas that had to deal with it. But when it landed on *your* doorstep, you declared a state of emergency.
Texas was being swamped by millions and you said "meh", but 50 showed up in your ritzy limousine-liberal enclave and you literally called out the military and had them removed.

recognition on border states who face daily influxes of illegal
immigrants.

I guess since Biden inexplicably failed to award the residents of Martha's Vineyard the Medal of Freedom, the Globe had to make up an award for these deserving latter-day heroes of our nation, who didn't just talk about brown people at cocktail parties. They showed courage under fire and actually interacted with brown people for 48 whole hours without asking any of them to clean the house or mow the lawn.
