Paul Schrader's Three Guns at Dawn is about three brothers, black, from
South Central. All three are corrupt. He claims that when he and Anthony Fuqua sent the script around, no black actor wanted to consider the
movie lacking any good black characters.

The project has been in development for years. He'd brought on Fuqua to
have a black co-director, but Fuqua has now left.
He's doing it as AI instead.
This video points out all the unemployed actors and surely it would have
been possible to cast with people willing to perform the script in
exchange for pay. However, the video still argues Schrader should have
made the script more acceptable, taking the note from the actors who
rejected it. I certainly don't agree that anyone not associated with a project gets to issue notes. But I find it disturbing Schrader wouldn't have just cast unknowns.

AI is the future. Especially when it becomes cheaper to use than paying actors.
There was a new Dr Who story made with AI released the other day. It's
not perfect but it was an impressive start. Hollywood might need to start taking pay cuts. Mr Claude is not leaving town anytime soon.

They really should have waited a few years to make ROGUE ONE. They did CGI overlays of the faces of Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher onto live actors, which was passable but still noticeable as SFX. But with the AI tech I'm seeing produced just by random YouTubers these days, I have to think a company
with Lucasfilm's resources would now be able to generate completely digital doubles for dead actors that are indistinguishable from the real people.

Indeed, it's getting to the point where they could make a STAR WARS sequel with the original characters, aged as they were in the 70s, with both their appearances and voicings generated by AI and it would look fantastic. And the visual effects? No more models, not even hours spent rendering layers in CGI. The AI creates an entire hyper-realistic looking space battle sequence in seconds.

I think AI has the potential to be the salvation of some of the very
tired franchises like Star Trek and Star Wars, which have shown
themselves to alienate ever more fans from the franchise because each succeeding edition has less in common with what drew people to the
franchise originally.
Imagine seeing the original Star Trek episodes done with top-quality AI
but with all the flaws buffed out.
By flaws, I mean everything from all
those inconsistencies that annoy fans like which deck Kirk's cabin is on
up to the bad writing in really horrible episodes like Spock's Brain.
Then revise and produce all the original scripts that didn't get made
for one reason or another, especially budget, so that there are entirely
new episodes. Then go through the aftermarket books and grab the really worthwhile stories for even MORE episodes.
Write entirely new episodes
that are CONSISTENT with the revised, fully-consistent canon. Something
like that could conceivably run for decades without ever having to worry about aging actors or outrageous salary demands.
. . .

I wouldn't want to see the original episodes redone. Well, maybe the one with the planet devourer. That might be cool. But mostly I'd want to see *new* stories using the original characters as they were at the time.

The book that explains the planet devourer was created as a weapon against the
Borg and leads to the discovery of an even more powerful version than the prototype, just as the Borg are coming for the Federation... that would be a cool one to do.

I'm sure the various guilds will throw a fit until the government passes laws guaranteeing actors have veto power over the use of their images so they can still make outrageous salary demands.

Decades after Humphrey Bogart's death, his estate licenses his image, typically in character as Sam Spade. The face is his. The character was created by Dashiell Hammett, the costume by interpreting the stories and script by the wardrobe supervisor.
Should wardrobe get paid?

Absolutely, that would be great. But I'd like to see at least one of the original episodes with the rough edges polished, just to see how I like
it. Maybe it would feel "wrong" and I wouldn't want any more of the
polished remakes but I'd at least like to see it tried.
